Oh and I forgot the two body searches. Yeah, but that's only because you went round twice before they recognised you and made you go in

Its largely irresponsible, given the risks and lack of safety involved in both, but irresponsible is also fun. There are genuine issues with flares (not least to do with the temperature they burn at, and the smoke they give off), in a confined space of a crowd, in the hands of someone with no professional training in how to properly handle such things (or the kind of chemical used in the flare / smoke bomb). Then there is the noise of the bangers, which of course as a surprise can have 'unintended' effects on crowd members beyond atmospheric (not to mention the risks associated with smuggling in the devices in the first place). Probably the best option, going forwards, really would be for the FA to allow clubs to utilise 'official smoke displays' to some extent for home and away fans in advance. which then deflects from the entire 'want/need' for doing it. Who lets them off? when? what training will they get? do they get a safety certificate etc etc etc. It ain't gonna happen and they've been banned for a reason. Just make sure you get to the Arsenal game early doors, i'd expect bloody long queues and alot of searches.

I can see more checks and tighter rules at Selhurst after our club gets a heavy fine and the clubs name dragged through the press and media. Makes us look like proper idiots and its all down to a few irresponsible people who think its fun to flout the rules and smash up toilets when all it does is give the club a bad name. In fact it ruined the wonderful win we had at Chelsea. What a bunch of prize immature pr@ts!
Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

Doubt the long queues thing. You've got to be an idiot to do it in your own ground?

I was sitting elsewhere but thought it was bloody stupid to let the flares off and especially the bangers.

We're going to be fined and subject to even more scrutiny home and away; well done to those who thought that was a good idea. Do we really want to be like Millwall and be herded into grounds and away again with a massive police presence?

Anyone who lets this side-issue ruin their enjoyment of beating the runaway league leaders on their own patch and winning 4 games on the trot needs to have a word with themselves and think about who is the actual "prize immature prat".

I would say the guy in full view of the cameras "proudly" holding a red flare and waving it about like he was begging to be banned.

As a non season ticket holder who just goes occasionally,I was surprised how superficial the search was. I was searched by a female which although was pleasant,it was a total waste of time. Not sure what the legal position is, but when I worked at Gatwick passenger search men could only search men,and the same with women (unfortunately).

This side issue as you call it will surely be in Steve Parish's mind when he gets the bill for the damage and the hefty fine for the prize immature prats that let of flares and did damage in Chelsea's stadium. Plus the bad press we are going to get when the FA gets going and charges us... You need to think before posting such crap yourself!

Also if this "side issue" becomes a regular occurence we'll end up watching our football through a fence, and the proposals for safe standing will be scrapped.
