At present we are actually only one point worse off this season than from the corresponding fixtures in 2015-16. Last season we only took 3 points from the relegated sides in the away matches, but this season we have taken 4 points from the promoted sides in the away matches. The result that has really made the difference is the loss to West Brom, when last season we won.

Unfortunately, to be no worse off than one point at the halfway stage, we are going to need four points from the next two matches. At best I see us possibly getting a draw at Watford. That would mean we go into the second half of the season with 16 points.

In the second half of last season in the corresponding fixtures we gained another 22 points. We had six wins – at home against all the relegated sides and away at Stoke, Chelsea and Liverpool. I don’t see us repeating those last two results this time round. Turn those into losses and, if all the other results go the same way, that will give us just another 16 points.

I don’t wish to be a harbinger of doom, but 16 + 16 = 32 and sayonara Premier League.

And yet there they are sat comfortably in 8th place, 8 points more and a much better goal difference.... they smashed Burnley 4-0 and beat Swansea 3-1.

You can't deny that Pulis is getting a better tune out of WBA than Pardew is getting out of us?

in order to reach the safe total come May of 43 points we need to be averaging just a tad over 1.3 points from each game until the end of the season. Can't see that happening whoever is in charge unless there is some dramatic transfers of quality players in the window (at least three!) and then it is a gamble, sadly think SP have lost his judgement on this one should have acted weeks ago. Hope I'm wrong!

I know that statistically last season is irrelevant as points won or lost then do not count but our last 38 games - one whole season - have garnered 28 points - 6 wins and 10 draws and 22 losses.
28 points sees us relegated every season since the inception of the Premier League - I am certainly worried!
