Watching the free kick decision on TV I think it was given because Punch wasn't even looking at the ball (evidenced by the fact that it hit him on the back of his head). It thus looked as if he just blocked the Swansea player. If he had faced the ball the guy would have run into Punch's back and free kick probably given the other way. Then how would he clear it if he was facing goal?
