How can it be a "real emergency" as we have a squad of 25 players to cover for 11 positions

As stated by someone else when Luke Shaw broke his league there was no problem getting an emergency loan. However:

Last season, Premier League clubs sent out just under 200 players on loan, with the vast majority of them going to the lower reaches of the English pyramid. But those deals are set to become a thing of the past and that will affect every club, from the summit of the Premier League to the bottom of League Two. From the 2016-17 season, Fifa has abolished emergency loans, meaning all transfers, temporary or otherwise, must be conducted during the aforementioned windows.

According to the news hes being discharged on Friday. Surely if he has broken his femur he would be in hospital longer. It might not be as bad as first feared

Not with the medical care afforded to footballers. May even be better that they have time to offer?

Edit: He'll probably back into light training by mid October.....

Great news about Pape. A relief that his career isn't over. Hope he's not rushed back and has time to heal.

Probably had his femur pinned. Still need to take care and will need the pin removed at a later date. The femur is the thickest bone in the body and will take a while to mend.

On you maybe.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

To be released Friday.
What brilliant news after the initial reports and what a great guy Parish is with his glowing tribute to all the emergency services ,hospital and medical teams ,together with a generous Club donation to the air ambulance charity.
Wishing you a speedy recovery,Pape.

As well as those mentioned we have Damo - was a full back at Hull (no I wouldn't want him there now), Ledley, and even Punch started his career at LB.

None of whom are players that we might want to play there but they are all feasible options

Not forgetting that (as posted on the Transfers threads) Flamini has played at LB for the Gunners.

But great news that the injury isn't apparently as bad as we all feared.

Has there been any kind of official announcement on how long he will be out? 3, 6, 12 months?

Glad it's "full recovery" and he's not "done a Coleman" but I was just wondering about the recovery time.

My guess would be the end of the season at best but it's exactly that a guess......

Absolutely agree with Jacey. Once again Mr. Parish has demonstrated a high level of decency and generosity which can only enhance the profile of Crystal Palace Football Club. And he's not a bad football director, by the way! Well played, Mr. Chairman.

They will likely wait to give any predictions for a little while. It takes a while to confirm the success of a procedure and they probably don't want to be setting any targets until the lad has started to heal.
