I keep hearing how the French benefits system is sooooooooo much more generous than ours. I have to say this is a new one on me, I even remember the mayor of Calais blaming the Calais migrant crisis on our ridiculously generous benefits system. Of course I believe there is something in the argument that they have family already here which would make them want to come here, but let's face it, our benefits system is ridiculously generous. I've even seen migrants interviewed on the news and when asked why they want to come here the answer was 'britain...she give me house...she give me money. We come Britain for our house and money, thanks!'. I didn't make that up, I actually heard it said on the news. Also the fact that they've travelled across umpteen borders and hundreds and thousands of miles to get here is a dead give away as to why they want to come here. Like I say, I don't blame them for wanting to benefit from such generosity but this can't be allowed to keep happening. The politicians also need to take some of the blame here.
Either way this must stop now. There are plenty of countries in Europe who can take them. We're full and simply can't sustain this mass influx of people, and we must stop giving money away like this. We have people in this country who are British who need our help.
Do you have numbers or statistics to back up the claim that we are 'full'? The French benefit system is more generous than here, which gives proof to the lie that migrants come here for the money. The main factors that draw people to england are the language, cultural ties and that they have family and friends here.
It should also be noted that only a miniscule percentage of refugees make their way to england and that other european countries are already taking far more in than this country.

So when the residents of the Calais migrant camp are interviewed about why they want to come to England and they repeatedly give economic reasons, what you are saying is that they are all actually lying and are in fact risking their lives to come here to visit their friends instead? The UK may or may not provide the most generous potential benefits. I honestly don’t know as I have never looked in any depth to see that other countries offer. What I can say with absolute certainty is that the perception is that Britain is the most generous country and that above all else is why these people don’t wish to stay in France or any other country they have passed through.
Well, i can't speak for what interviews you have seen but i haven't noticed that they 'repeatedly' give economic reasons although i don't deny that this is sometimes mentioned. I would say that the most common answer in interviews i've seen is that they have family/friends here. I suggest that you do some investigating about the relative benefits from various countries and let us know what you find. Your 'certainty' seems to me to be somewhat illogcal. If the perception was as you state then why do the vast majority of migrants stay in France or other countries within the EU. If the situation was how you claim then there really should be the 'swarm' of migrants that certain politicians have told us to be on the lookout for rather than the relatively low numbers that are threatening to 'flood us'.
Ghost - may I ask what your solution would be for the migrants based in calais?
Good luck with that.

However for some strange reason I still feel compelled to want to try! I am genuinely interested in what possible viable alternatives will be suggested by Ghost. From my experience on these boards, the ‘right wingers’ (which I would class myself) often seem to offend the ‘left wingers’ with their opinions. However, it’s also my opinion that very few ‘left winger’s ever actually offer any opinions! Most just like to shout down the ‘right wingers’ views without offering any viable alternatives. With the possible exception of one or two such as Legal eagle (who to his credit will offer his own views and be prepared to back them up) I find most on the left side of things have no realistic solutions to any of these problems. So please Ghost - the floor is yours - please tell us what Britain should do with the thousands waiting at Calais and the hundreds of thousands who are still in their home countries

I think you are bang on there Tom. And I also think that our Mr Ghost posts a lot on the BBS. Now that is a virtual hub of the left leaning kind, and they have a pack mentality on there to go for who ever dares no to share their views. So I don't think Mr Ghost is used to being argued with.

Where's this 50 times a thread bollocks coming from? even if I did (which I don't) it would only mean I am proud of serving my country and protecting its interests at home and abroad. If your not proud enough of your profession to mention on it on here thats your problem mate not mine.
But once again just for the record not mentioned it once on here.

Well if Dannyh does tell people he's been in the armed forces then it's probably because he's proud of serving in such a great institution. Funnily enough I mentioned that I'd served in the armed forces to Ghost Weasel (which I have, 8 years in the Royal Green Jackets-now part of The Rifles), he tried to mock me and insult. So it seems to be ghost weasel is the sort of little knob who would spit at and hurl abuse at our brave servicemen in the street, but I wouldn't expect anything less from low life scum like her.
