Regarding Chavez's murder, if I had hard evidence to prove it I probably would be busying myself with press conferences and global politics rather than speaking to the other plebs on here. That several people on here have scoffed at the idea really demonstrates how little idea you have about the world you live in, and the lengths that people in power will go to in order to maintain that power. And yes, there are centuries of hard evidence to back that up!!! Interesting that the only thing people chose to pick up on was that I said Chavez was murdered. Presumably because its impossible to argue with his achievements. Which are, again, backed up by hard facts! I live in Latin America and the vast majority of people here state with utter conviction that Chavez was bumped off. No, it doesn't make it true. But yes, we do have a far better idea of whats been going on than you do! Finally, specifically for the 3 or 4 people who scoffed at the idea, don't you think its a strange coincidence that 4 progressive, left-leaning South American leaders all got diagnosed with cancer within an 18 month period?... Its time to grow up children. The real world is not the fantasy you believe it to be. Of course, it could be coincidence, so there for its murder? And how did the US agents infect them with cancer in that 18 month period? The CIA fly in the windows in the guise of bats and sink their cancer infected fangs into the necks of these Socialist heros.

That's the Chinese, the Soviet generally worked you to death in Labour camps, post-Stalin, going into the more enlightened period of the Soviet. Either that or they declared you mentally ill and imprisoned you in a mental hospital indefinitely (where they'd fry your brains with ECT etc). But with those outside the Soviet Union, it was more poison umbrella tips, ice picks and defenestration. The CIA would never really use something like cancer, its too unpredictable and slow. An assassination requires quick transition of power and the creation of a vaccum to create instability. If they're going to die in 10 months, the transition of power is too simple to establish. Intelligence agencies, where they do go in for assassination, tend towards practical effective methods that they can control the outcome of. The soviet were always quite keen on the threat of torture of the victims wife and children for keeping dissidents who 'stepped out of line' under control. The US was always much more subtle, I feel, and that's probably why it wasn't very good at assassination.

Blimey Jamie, I'm surprised you have fallen for all this right wing propaganda about how Socialist states treated people. Now you have 'stepped out of line' yourself, you could be in for some similar virtual treatment form the Comrades on here.

Two of the greatest tragedies in terms of the pointless loss of life were the early soviet era (pre-Stalin) and the Maoist cultural revolution.

Its called having an open non-tunnel vision mind You might be surprised perhaps how many whose views you might often disagree with on here have one in that way. ...including, notwithstanding one's own views, not falling into the trap of absolute divisions: ie any view posted by someone one perceives as a lefty or rightist being responded to by a generalised irrelevant dig at any perceived sins of the left/right wherever and whenever they took place. Hope you are a person who posts with an open non tunnel-vision mind too. Edited by legaleagle (08 Jun 2015 7.48pm)

In fact I have a lot of respect for what Jamie says (some of it anyway!), he is a lot more objective than you and Nick. Don't really need pompous lectures from you two thanks. Thanks for your opinion.Has it not occurred to you I was teasing you I will try to learn from your example and the complete lack of pomposity or lack of unobjectivity in any of your posts and the views expressed, and I do hope Nick will too
