As much as I appreciate Murray's goals in the season we came up, I really don't thin k he is going to be able to re-create that form in the Premier League. Yes he still gets in good positions but he lacks the yard of pace since his injury, that he ever really had before it and is not getting any younger.

The save Lloris made wasn't a worldy save, it was a poor miss by a Premier league strikers standards and i have to say that if Gayle was behind the ball, the net would have bulged. The post hit against Burnley was unlucky, great technique but against Burnley who are effectivly top Championship defensively, much like us last season except they play far more attacking football than we did.

It is time for us to look at similar players to Murray but with a bit more pace and age on their side. If Murray goes, I'll wish him well and thank him for all he did for us but, much like Ambrose, I think we got his best season out of him and he'll slowly drop down the football league now...

Fully agree with this. I think the reality is for players like Murray and Williams etc that the club has grown quicker than they can improve. Love the job they have done for us and fully appreciate them, but its best for both parties that they move on. 2 mill for an over 30 year old champ striker is a decent price.

Before today I really wanted Gomis over Gestede, but having read the post a Swansea fan has put on the Gomis thread has made me doubt his temperament. Gestede may be the best next option.

I still feel Murray can do a job for us, and if he is willing to be a bit part player, Pardew hopefully will want to hang on to him? Campbell has to be out the door before Murray.

Gayle
Murray
Chamackh
Sonago
and ???

decent 5 strikers, who can all do a different job for us, Pardew has involved Murray, more than Pulis & Warnock put together. Just wish he had put away his 2 big chances, and the defence for him to stay would be stronger.

Yes, I'd choose Murray over Campbell without even thinking about it. However, so would most other clubs. Reading are willing to pay 2 mil for Murray, as the rumors claim. Does anyone think there is a club willing to pay us that much for Campbell?

Anyone know roughly what Murray is on at Palace?
I would prefer to keep him until the end of the season rather than let him go now,but if he is one of our top earners and we get a £2 mill transfer fee then I can see why we would sell him.

Agree with most of what you said but not the above. I don't think Murray is a Premiership striker, end of. You could give him all the time in the world to improve but he'll never become one. His ceiling is being a top notch performer in the Championship. In the Prem, he's an impact sub at very best. It's a tough business with little room for sentiment and that's the truth of it. 2 million quid for Murray represents very good business and I'm sure Steve Parish knows it.

Reality is that if Blackburn want 5 million for Gestede and we can get him for the equivalent of 2 million by selling Murray for 2 million and sending Campbell to Blackburn for a million as a makeweight leaving us with Gayle, Sanogo, Gestede, and Chamakh up top we would be immeasurably stronger than we are now for very little actual outlay and possibly with the budget left to bring even one more striker in the window.

He did indeed but it's OK as he probably meant Murray judging by the above post!

And at the time I said it, I was correct. He is still not the finished article, but he improving rapidly. He may well thus become one. This may come as a shock but with good coaching and time to adapt, a player can improve from being a Championship striker to being a Premiership one. It is not wrong to call a player what he is at the time of writing rather than what you think he might become.

You weren't. He's just been given a chance is all and you only said it two weeks ago.

That would be quiet a shrewd bit of business if pulled off. Apparently we're still in for more long term strikers (Deeney and Khouma Babacar according to the mirror [Link] ) and there's so much talk about signing another winger (again probably for the future, a Bolasie replacement?) I wouldn't be surprised if we did end up with a winger too.

Huh? I've been saying Gayle was not a Premiership striker consistently for the past fifteen months. That may finally be changing (we will know by the end of the season) but it's been true up to this point.

In all honestly we have 3 target man strikers. Sanogo, Murray and Campbell.

Chamakh players more in midfield of a midfielder 3 with him moving in behind the striker when we are attacking. And Gayle has been used as a winger recently.

Campbell anit much cop as a target man. So I can see why we want to bring this lad in, at £4m I don't think it would be a bad bit of business.
