So much for Labour's fine talk before the Election about fiscal responsibility, blah blah. First, to show how tough they are, they deprive millions of pensioners of their heating allowance. Then, with that little bit of credit in the bank, they cave in first to the junior doctors and now to the railwaymen. The words leopard and spots come to mind.

My issue with the Train deal is not the money but the lack of reforms. The Unions have confirmed that their employment terms remain the same. This was the whole reason why the previous government would not settle and why the public have put up with 2 years of rail strikes only for Labour to fold.

The train strikes have been going on for over a year and have impacted millions of commuters. The Tories deliberately kicked these issues into the long grass for someone else to sort out and you've jumped on the it. Wait for the Post office and infected blood scandals to get sorted!! Also if CGT is increased in the next budget, which it should as the rates are quite low, please note that 1% of people pay CGT. It is a tax that most 'normal' people never pay

Hmm, I did not vote Labour but I will provide an alternative view and a PS. They are close to resolving two disputes which I understand cost more than the pay rises demanded. And they are "depriving" that large % of pensioners whose disposable income has been greater than the waged for some time. PS why is this on "General"

The last government wallowed in chaos and refused to negotiate, this was to the detriment of the railways. The Tories abdicated all responsibility so Labour has taken the railworkers pay back to its former levels. It seems to me that Labour were elected as the country needed leadership. The Tories are near extinction.

Regrettably yes. I say it that way as this country needs a strong opposition and right now we don't have one.

It is a tax that most 'normal' people never pay The heating allowance is now means-tested, whereas previously it was effectively just a part of the basic state pension which happened to be paid towards Christmas rather than spread out across the year. Labour has therefore reduced the state pension by making part of it means-tested. If only 1% of people pay CGT, then what is the point of raising the rate, as the additional contribution to the Treasury will be less than minimal. Or is it the usual jealousy thing; because you haven't bothered to invest for your future or started your own business etc etc, you think that people who have done so should be punished for being successful? In any case, CGT is a doddle to avoid and is therefore an extremely inefficient and unproductive way of raising revenue...as you have stated.

Does that mean they have reduced the state pension to the extent of the fuel allowance for those who fail the means test?

As a pensioner i got the Winter Fuel Allowance, but because i get a disability allowance, that means i don't get Pension Credit. Therefore i won't get the 'heating' allowance.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |
