RIP For those of us that know & remember him. Such a brilliant Palace historian.
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

This post has been merged from a topic called 'RIP Reverend Nigel Sands' by becky Reverend Nigel Sands the former club chaplain has passed away. For those of a certain age we can all remember his love for the club and the many articles he wrote. He was a real expert on Palace history. RIP Rev. Edited by Badger11 (05 Aug 2024 6.00pm)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'RIP Reverend Nigel Sands' by becky He was part of the Palace furniture. I interviewed him for an audio football documentary back in 1997 - it was about the great Hungarian team of the 1950s - very helpful and very knowledgable although he turned down my offer of a copy of the finished article! He quoted a description of the third goal scored for Hungary by Puskas at Wembley, the famous Puskas drag back, that era's equivalent of the 'Cruyff Turn', when Billy Wright was sold a dummy as the ball was dragged back with sole of Pukas's left boot to evade his sliding tackle before it was blasted high into the net ... the England captain was described as 'a fire engine arriving at the wrong fire'. RIP

Sorry to learn this news. Nice bloke and a very keen supporter of our club.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I met him many (20+) years ago in the club shop. He asked if I wanted to buy his latest book, when I told him I already had he shook my hand & thanked me Lovely man
Trivial fact - Palace used to win 5-1 at least once a season, maybe next season? |
