Election is over, maybe time for a new thread.

Let's see what happens in first week and month.

First thing, new cabinet.

Good to see Ashworth and Debonnaire have gone.

Ashworth lost to a pro Palestine candidate.

No borrowing so where is the money coming from ?
Reeves looks worried already and she’s been chancellor for 3 hours.
Suck it up labour as I think matov is correct. The tories threw it and the reason will be seen very soon I reckon.
Indirect tax for all of us so this 2 k will be a thing !

Well, that is one hell of a majority; effectively Labour can now do whatever they want. The question is whether they do what the electorate wants.
As an aside I was sorry to see Penny Moudant lose. I thought she did an excellent job at the King’s Coronation and at very short notice. Not sure who on the Labour side could have done such an excellent job of it.

hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing.

In the early days it will be the easily measured promises that can be tested.

It's a given that any incoming govt will blame it's woes on the outgoing govt but that only lasts a while.

I can't see a day one legislation to somehow classify people smugglings gangs as terrorists or whatever it is will have any effect.

France has no reason to accept returnees or allow British forces to operate with impunity on their soil.

The number of boat arrivals can be measured year vs year.

The number of asylum applications " processed " can be measured

The number of successful asylum applications can be measured.

NHS waiting lists and other service levels can be measured.

There are many other things but these two issues are front and centre for most people.

Inflation is at the behest of the BoE as are interest rates.

Good idea HKO. It'll be very interesting to see how this new government works with such a low percentage of the country's vote. Plenty of scope for factions of opposition breaking out internally.

The only bright note, as you pointed out, is that little weasel Ashworth lost.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

The country is in a complete shambles. I blame the government.

There can't be any legislation on day 1 - Sir Keir will now have to fly up to Scotland so that His Majesty the King can invite him to form a government - until that happens, nothing else can.

From a personal point of view I hope that they don't change any tax rules for a couple of months or so!
I wonder whether the media will scrutinize and hold Labour to the same account as they did the Tories.
They will get a free run for a short while of course but they are going to have to tell us their intentions pretty quickly and I am fairly sure that we are not going to like a lot of what they propose!
I will be keeping an eye on the BBC rhetoric for sure - just to make sure that they remain as impartial as always

Starmer used the phrase, I think he meant first day Parliament sits

It is only good if they are replaced by who you are aligned to, no?

No.
They.
Didn't.

It was a perfect storm of an SNP collapse, the rise of Reform, poor election timing and campaign, and years of incompetent governance on a scale not seen since...???
