Beyond Real Madrid and possibly Man City, I can't think of any club that would not qualify as a 'selling club' in that if one of the aforementioned comes along, there's very little a club can sometimes do. PSG won't ever have the same attraction, playing in Ligue 1 and no CL and Barca lack the finance as do the German and Italian clubs. Liverpool, Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and perhaps Newcastle don't quite have the combination of finance/prestige to demand the same pull.

Therefore, unless you are considered to be the biggest club in world football, or the new(ish) challenger to the crown, every other club is essentially loomed over.

I imagined that being a 'selling club' was incorporated into our new 'philosophy'? It's almost inevitable. Also many on here used to look resentfully and enviously at the model the likes of the weed were employing, we are now doing similar.

We somehow or for very particular reasons kept hold of Wilf but look at even the likes of Villa and Grealish. The moment we have a player performing well for us, the poachers will take notice. Therefore, so long as we keep buying them young(ish) and cheap(ish), we can sustain the club, perhaps even make some dosh and achieve some success without collapsing as a result of a few outgoings.

S'ton within a short period of time had some real players (Bale, Walcott, VVD, Mane, Shaw, Alex O-C etc.) but didn't manage that well. Perhaps we've taken some lessons there. A number of flops will also be involved but occasionally we will unearth gems and if they go, it will be off the back of us gaining from them being here.

Under a manager like Glasner, and the recruitment team who brought us the likes of Olise, Guehi, Eze, Wharton, Doucoure, Munoz etc., we may well be on the incline whilst successfully navigating the inevitable. It's certainly preferable for me than years past.

When Olise was fit last season he was operating at a different level and sadly it was inevitable a top club would poach him. I am at least pleased he is going to a genuinely top club. I'd be far more upset if we sold one of our stars to a Spurs or a Newcastle.

As it stands, we seemingly already have a potential star in Kamada signed up to step in and Riyad ready to come in and push for a place in the back three. If we were to sign one or two of the exciting players we're linked with then I see no reason not to be optimistic, especially when you consider Doucoure and Franca should hopefully be fit again. Last summer we had a strong first XI but a weak squad. Our squad is already stronger this summer and selling Olise may in the long run help the club to improve the team as a whole, even if it loses that individual brilliance.

I hate this notion that there are 'selling clubs'. Every club on the planet bar about 5 are 'selling clubs'

And the OPs insinuation that it was pointless getting a season ticket etc.

We've signed some good young players, who have got better and have ambitions about our level. Nothing wrong with that. Its part of the process, and if anything makes us a better prospect to exciting young talent. DF can point to Olise as an example of the progress you can achieve with Palace.

Trap these guys in, and the story loses its ending.

Be happy that we've got to enjoy their talent, and look forward to the exciting new players that we are signing.

What makes you think we are no longer a selling club?

We are now a mid range Premier League side. We have never won a major trophy or qualified for Europe.

As such we will see out players picked off by bigger clubs and good luck to them.

Where we have to get cute is to identify those next generation players, but them at the right time and sell them at the right time for a profit.

We have done that recently so hope we can continue to do so.
