Just wondered how everyone feels about this Whilst I feel it was always inevitable - the FA and Premier league making the decision without consulting the rest of the pyramid and the EFL is an abomination. Scrapping replays in the rounds before the premier league sides even join is also mind boggling. - EFL Clubs already played more games than most premier league sides and just get on with it with far worse travel, facilities and staff. Saw a stat that only 6 premier league clubs have had replays in the last 5 years. Also the other mention that the FA cup will no longer be the last domestic game of the season - the premier league last weekend will now be the finale so there is a longer summer break..... so more time for the big clubs to play in the club world cup and lucrative tours - or as the FA say ' more rest time for players A lot of EFL clubs damning the decision, especially as the premier league keep delaying the new funding, I feel like this is just another thing the premier league are trying to get a strangle hold on. We were once a club where FA cup replays against wolves and villa in 2010 literally kept the club going. Edited by MFW94 (19 Apr 2024 8.35am) Edited by MFW94 (19 Apr 2024 8.36am)

Pandering to the top 6 / 7 /8 clubs in the PL involved in various forms of European competition - Follow the money. The smaller clubs don't have the same voice in the room.

I believe that money will change hands but that is not the point. If you are a minnow and your team gets a 0-0 at Old Trafford the thought of bringing Moan United back to your ground will be the highlight of the season for the fans. That is what they are robbing them of. We won 1 game at Anfield and look what it has done for the morale of the team and the fans. They should not deny the EFL clubs that moment of joy.

If Premier League clubs don't have the security of 'phew, got a draw, we'll sort it out in the second leg' they'll probably show up at the football league sides with a stronger team at the outset.

yeah the stat doesnt add up, maybe it was league 2 sides have replayed premier league sides 6 times but yeah much of muchness - if premier league sides are worried about replays then just win the sodding match in the first place and dont field a weakened side. The announcement mentions due to the increasing fixtures in uefa competitions but no mention of EFL Originally posted by ambrose7

I think its typical of the FA and PL. The PL always act in the interests of the top sides and screw the rest. Its certainly not in the interest of the fans or the smaller clubs. Still gives the top six a chance to go on a 5 game tour of some distant land instead of the usual 3.

the plot thickens FA released another statement - We have listened to the concerns expressed over the last 24 hours, and would like to outline the approval process which was undertaken for the 2024-25 professional game football calendar. We have been discussing the calendar for the 2024-25 season with the Premier League and EFL for well over a year. Removing Emirates FA Cup replays was discussed in the early meetings and all parties accepted that they could not continue. The discussions then focused on how to make all of our competitions stronger, despite having fewer dates available and wanting to maintain player welfare. The changes to the Emirates FA Cup achieve this by returning it to a weekend competition on every round, and ensuring that we have exclusive broadcast slots in an increasingly congested calendar. To clarify, we have also increased the number of Emirates FA Cup matches that will be broadcast in the early rounds, which will lead to additional guaranteed broadcast revenue for EFL and National League teams. Additionally, we review the prize money annually for the competition, together with representatives from the EFL and PL and will do the same for the 2024-25 season. The calendar for next season was approved by the Professional Game Board, which consists of four EFL representatives and four Premier League representatives, last month, and then by the FA Board, which includes Premier League, EFL, National Game and grassroots representation. This is the process we undergo every year to approve the calendar. We understand the concerns expressed over the last 24 hours, and we will be sharing more details with clubs very shortly to explain the additional revenue opportunities in the early rounds. We will keep this under review as the new calendar begins to ensure that EFL and National League clubs do not lose out

I can understand the lower league/non-league clubs being upset by this, especially non league if they get to the 1st round proper, cup runs helped by replays can keep them going financially for years Although I will say despite the result, the final replay of 1990 gave us another special night under the twin towers back when it meant something, horrible result, but atmosphere wise, so much better than the first game as we had double the support there. I would split at the 64 stage so the bottom rated 32 are at home.

Give smaller clubs a bigger share of gate money if they are playing away and allow a bigger share of tickets as well.

When I first saw this news I was angry - particularly for smaller clubs. However, the would be some positives for them. If it is a draw then extra time then penalties, that gives the smaller team almost a better chance to progress. For instance, I wouldn't like to bet on us in a penalty shoot out against a smaller side. And who doesn't love a penalty shoot out? (The England team excepted)
