MODS please feel free to move if in wrong place. The club have cancelled the discount for season tickets to NHS, Police, Fire service, Army, Air Force, and Navy personnel. This has happened without warning or notification, I felt so strongly that I informed the Mirror Sport who took up the story, link below. Before I contacted the Mirror, I asked to the club to clarify the decision the reply is below. Good morning, Thank you for your email and sincere apologies for the late response. I understand that the removal of the discount may come as disappointing news, especially considering the support and loyalty you have shown to the club over the years. Please know that this decision was not made lightly, and we value the contributions of our military personnel. I would like to clarify that when season ticket renewals went on sale last season, we informed supporters in person or over the phone that the discount would no longer be applicable for the 24/25 season. I have since spoken to our box office and the discount will not be reinstated. We recognise that changes like these can be unsettling, and we apologise if there was any confusion or inconvenience caused. If you have any further questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch. I was not informed in person, or over the phone LOl. Surely removing a discount that I had for over 10 years, should've been communicated by at least an email ? The way the club is treating fans at the moment leaves a lot to be desired and when you complain you just get lied to, with not even a hint of an apology. To be honest its not even about the extra £270 I've got to pay its the fag packet way they've dealt with it, and then when called out on it, literally lied to the newspapers to save face. its only going to save the club £25000 ( their info given to the mirror ) which in the big scheme of things is peanuts. I did ask them how they value the armed forces when they've removed the discount, and shock horror no reply. In a time when the Spuds cancelled OAP discounts, the fan truly is now regarded as a necessary evil by Prem clubs, and I never thought I'd say that about Palace. I don't know if Sharon Lacey still looks at this page, maybe someone could bring it to her attention ? Cheers Dannyh

I'm in 2 minds on this. The club have frozen prices for this season and that should have been the story. Why should certain workers get a discount, it's not linked to salary which at least would be fair. As for the OAP discount at the Spuds again same question many pensioners are better off than those working so why should they get a discount that is not related to their income. I appreciate that many public service workers do a good job but I'm not sure that it's fair on the rest of the fans. The real issue with ticket prices is actually related to demographics. Children get a discount which is fine as they are the next generation of supporters. Late teens and early twenties is when young men do The away day stuff as they are often still living at home so can afford it. The people who really miss out are those who are in their twenties to fifties. This is the group with the least disposable income as they are raising families. Most clubs ignore this group and then wonder why the stands are full of kids and old men. So my feeling is discounts should relate to income.

Cheers Dannyh Morning DH, i highlighted this very issue on the 24/25 ticket price thread & in the link i posted from 'Football London' you are mentioned as is the email you have posted here. I don't agree with Badgers post but, do yours as it has affected me as well. Underhand by the club(yet again) & no, i never received any communication either . . .
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

I don’t think linking discounts to income is viable or an equitable solution, although I get where Badger is coming from. I’m now a pensioner and although I’m not exactly living on the breadline, if the club were to discontinue the OAP discount it would make me think twice about renewing my ticket. Having recently had a bad experience dealing with a supporter related issue at another South London club, I don’t think Palace are unique in their apparent disregard for their fans. If discounts were the right thing to do when they were in play, what’s changed ? Edited by NEILLO (28 Mar 2024 11.33am)

So my feeling is discounts should relate to income. being perfectly honest, its not the money, its the fag packet way they have single handedly alienated a section of our supporters. You cant cancel a discount for some, and not others, or you are sending clear message that you value their custom over others. Discounts are not income based as you said, so how did they decide to cut Blue light staff, and not OAP's or students ? That's what I wanted an answer to. Also why lie about it? I can swear on both my kids lives that the club did not in anyway communicate this to me, or anyone else I've spoken to in the last few days, first it was you had an email. NOPE. then I got told it was on my receipt for last years ticket. NOPE. Then laughably I got told by some kid called Patrick at the clubs customer service desk, that I was told face to face or over the phone, which is a blatant lie. So my angst with it all lays with the club yet again being totally crap at liaising important messages to its fan base, and then lying about it when called out. I think that's the most depressing thing about it, the bare faced lying.

Clearly the way its been communicated leaves a lot to be desired but also as Neillo has said - has something changed ? If nothing substantial has changed & its just the club wanting more money for the bums on seats then for sure there are better ways to go about it , especially when they have created a lot of good publicity from the price freeze on season tickets for others. They could have announced that with current financial pressures no new Blue Light discounts will be processed (existing ticket holders continue to get the discount) Or a gradual / staggered removal of the discounts, for example £50 / £75 or£100 a season until the current discount structure has eventually been eroded.

Who is surprised this has been done in such a ham fisted way?
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

Other public employees don't get allocated privileges but they are also subjected to all the shortcomings associated with working in the public sector. NHS pensioners do get higher annual pension increases year on year and the police and military work fewer years to qualify for their pensions. They are really not so hard done by. CPFC are totally out of touch when it comes to communication with fans. They never get back to you and they never communicate anything on their website in mm personal space. Plus the website is so bad for navigating.

Season ticket holder for past 13 seasons and NHS worker for 15 years. Never heard of or seen this discount mentioned or advertised until it's cancelled!
