Great news! How is his rehabilitation coming on? Anyone know what his situation is?

no issue giving him a new contract, but the timing seems slightly strange. Why not wait a few months when he is back in training.

Maybe it's because giving him a contract before the turn of the season when other teams aren't quite so poised to offer him a lucrative deal and also he's slightly more likely to sign when he's injured when the outcome of the injury isn't as certain as to how long he will take to recover. Plus his agent would be prepping to see who's interested.

The unsung hero in the Palace team since he got injured you can tell the midfield is weaker. When he comes back next season it will be like a new signing. With Glasner's (3-4-2-1) formation he will definitely start probably with Lerma and that means Wharton will be benched unless Wharton outperforms Lerma for the rest of the season. Brilliant news. Things are falling into place at last. Him, Lerma and Wharton are all fantastic options for those two midfield positions. Hopefully he can return to fitness and form and then, if we do choose to sell him in a year or two, it will be for a huge fee.
We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold... |

Its a commitment from the club to get him on a long deal with such a bad injury ,all we can do is wish him the best and hope his recovery goes to plan .

Very pleasing news about his contract extension.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Would you give a pay rise to a member of staff that wasn’t going to work for 12 months also in the knowledge they might never be as good as they were before? It’s a risk for sure and it’s clearly not gone well in the case of another of our long term injured in Ferguson. I can understand why they have done it however I would hope there is a get out clause in the new contract if he doesn’t return to full fitness, after all it’s not just a few pounds being thrown around.

He has been given an extension to his contract to keep his value high. The value fluctuation between having one year left ( possibly run his contract down) and a 5 year contract is huge. Additionally he is a bloody good player for us and seemingly happy to stay.
