There was a detailed analysis yesterday on Sky of Glasner’s preferred methodology together with video examples of teams he has previously managed. In conclusion I think I think it’s too early to make the transition to the new system with the players at our disposal unless we make tweaks e.g 352 where Eze plays as the most advanced of 5, but then where does Olise play? This is an opinion as is obviously open to debate, but I think there would be teething problems if we move to rapidly to such system until we have had type to refine it and have the right players.

Is it a 3-4-3 or more of a 3-4-2-1 or even 5-2-3? In any instance I'd guess the formation was a bit like below and I'd suggest the following ignoring injuries etc for now: GK: Johnstone I'm sure there are plenty of variations of that others can and will knock up plus I've probably forgotten players but just reflects my initial thinking!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

3-4-3 I can see Andersen being the ball playing centre half. Similar to what Conte did to Luiz at Chelsea.
LWB (Tyrick Mitchell) CAM (Eberechi Eze)

It isn't 343 its 3421 which is different the full backs play much higher, and the two have a much freer role which would suite Eze and Olise, if they are still here, i the the LWB is the most important buy, Mitchell is not attack minded enough, Doucoure and Wharton would be superb with Lerma and Ozoh as back up, and no contracts given to Schlupp, Hughes, Clyne, Tomkins, Jairo and Ferguson, with a one year extension for Ward
“That’s a joke son, I say, that’s a joke.” “Nice boy, but he’s sharp as a throw pillow.” “He’s so dumb he thinks a Mexican border pays rent” “ “Son… I say, son, some people are so narrow minded they can look through a keyhole with both eyes.”__ Forhorn Leghorn |

I understand what you're saying about 3421, but the analysis last night focused on Glasner and 343 with 3 front players pressing closely and interlinking quickly. Originally posted by Lanzo-Ad

any decent managers will first see what resources they have and pick a formation that best works for them. That was deBoer's issue - he picked the formation first, and look how that went. I will be amazed if we play 3 CBs against Burnley on Sat

To coin an old SP phrase it will be an evolution not a revolution. To counter a few of the points you made. I think Wharton and Lerma/CD are good enough. I'd be so bold to say that Wharton will be one of hte most covered CMs in the league by Xmas. But with AW, JL, CD, DO we've got 4 decent CM's. Ebz and Olise would be fine flanking JPM, Ebz would naturally tuck in more and Olise drift wider. We are at our most dangerous when these 2 interlink, so I'd be in favour of giving them as much flexibility as possible. Pressing is jsut intelligent running. If the mandates is that OG plays a high press, the front 3 will do it (or they wont play). He'll be pragmatic. We have a base of pretty good players, if he can add 10% extra concentration and strength of character that will be enough! Edited by MrRobbo (20 Feb 2024 11.22am)

Eze is going to run into that a lot in his career and it’s part of why I’m not convinced he’ll end up at one of the big boys, despite his talent. He’s a floating number 10 but hardly anyone can accommodate those anymore - even Vieira struggled to fit him in, and it’s much easier to justify at our level given the strength of the squad.

Jonny Ertl gave his assessment of his fellow countryman on the FYP podcast yesterday. He said Glasner's main strength has been his ability to adapt his formation and tactics to the strengths of the players available, so I don't necessarily think we'll see players pigeonholed into positions so he can play 3-4-3. It is a quandary though as Munoz looks much better as a wingback, but Mitchell doesn't really.

LWB and the 3rd CB slot will be the biggest areas to work on in the summer, Mitchell doesn't know what he's doing that high up the pitch.

Never mind the formation Ollie, just sort out taking and defending corners. Top priority.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |
