Just asking

1) There is a very good chance we would bounce right back. Last year's relegated clubs currently occupy the top three positions. The other probable relegated clubs Burnley and Sheff Utd are historically bad and are not obvious promotion candidates
2) Unless Hodgson stays, we should see much more progressive football and lots more wins. This might help keep crowd revenue stable and make fans happier
3) Pretty well all the players people want off the payroll Schlupp, Riedewald, Hughes, Tomkins, Ferguson, Clyne, and Ward are out of contract in the summer. None of them are likely to be picked up by a Premier League club and it might be worth resigning a couple at a reduced wage who could still perform at the Championship level
4) Depending on release clauses, all of our star players are signed for at least the summer of 2026. Having said that, I imagine Olise, Guehi and Andersen would all go. and I imagine we could get a reasonable fee for Johnstone or Henderson. I would think Mateta would also be pushing to leave. Doucoure is coming off an injury and Eze might stay at least whilst we are looking good for promotion. There should be 150 million+ available though the loss of TV revenue will take a chunk
5) We sign a new younger manager who has shown promise but is not at a team as good as Palace. Preferably from the Championship as he should be familiar with the top players in that division we might be after
6) Parish might learn a lesson (especially as his net worth will have taken a hit) and be more proactive in the future if he is still around
7) The Americans might bail and we could get one owner in
The youngsters will get much more play at a level where they can shine and gain confidence. Some of the current loanees may be squad-ready

Our first team could look something like

Henderson
Munoz
Richards
Holding
Mitchell
Doucoure
Wharton
Eze
Rak-Sayki
Edouard
Franca

With judicious signings, it should be stronger and some of the above would be squad players

subs would include Lerma, Ayew, Ebiowei, Ozoh, Umeh, Adamarola, Imray, Goodman/Whitworth + any holdovers (see 3)

I reckon that should be enough for 100 points!

p.s. please don't mention Charlton

My answer is 'yes' although you forgot one point and that's a bit more room in the stadium on match days!

I understand where the sentiment comes from but I still can't subscribe to any theory that suggests we will progress in any way, shape or form by being relegated from the PL.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The squad would be decimated by relegation

Olise - Gone
Eze - Gone
Guehi - gone
Andersen - gone
Johnstone - highly suspect will be gone
Doucoure - probably gone (depending on fitness)
Wharton - could even snapped up by another PL side - ie. Newcastle wanted him.
Edouard - probably try and offload to get his wages off the books.
Mateta - wants out anyway.

We would be left with players no other PL teams want, and we would probably end up re-signing all those out of contract. And how much of the revenue brought in by those sales would be spent on the team ? I would have serious doubts.

In conclusion, would relegation be bad idea, YES. Yes it would.

Doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I started in mid-table division 3 so we’ll still be higher than that
Relegation just means we’ll have the chance of getting promoted again, which is some of our greatest memories in the past.
One way or another, relegation will freshen it up, clear out of players, new manager, it’s all become a bit stale hasn’t it, in fact I think if we go down I’ll be looking forward to next season more. I know it could get worse if we do go down, but any true Palace fan will still be around and we’ll be shot of most of the annoying know it all glory hunters and tourists who’ve jumped on board in recent years

Good luck finding the glory with us!

The football in our last stint in the second tier was mostly awful. If we went down we'd likely get rid of our real stars and if the current board were still in charge they would likely be conservative with reinvesting the money, the new stand might get shelved, we'd find it even harder to find a decent manager and we'd have to get it in the ear from Brighton supporters.

On the plus side we'd be back to crowds of 12-15,000 so there'd be space for me to put my feet up.

Unless they have release clauses, none of those players are out of contract for another two years. Are you suggesting they will all just down tools? (I guess they might if Roy is renewed!). I suggested some would go and could be replaced by younger players that would be outstanding at Championship level. There will be money available and great incentive on the board to buy

Sometimes you have to take one step forward to take two steps forward

Just out of interest, who are the younger players that would be outstanding at Championship level.

How would I know? That's up to Freedman and the new manager to determine. That is why they are paid the big bucks

Believe me there’s plenty of them, who are only interested because we’re premier league.
I know after a few years back in the championship or worse when it all gets a bit bleak again I’ll be singing a different tune and yearning for promotion again. But as it stands at the moment relegation doesn’t frighten me and next season will be a fresh start after a few years of turgid stuff.

It’ll be nice not having to bother with old big ears Lineker on a Saturday night as well

I didn't even read your post but in answer to you silly question, take a look at how long it took Forest (a bigger club than us) to get back up. 25 years!
Take a look at Sheffield Wednesday and where they are now. There is NO guarantees a club will make an instant return and every year you are not in the Premiership clubs like us are bleeding a lot of money.
Relegation from the Premiership is never ever a good thing no matter how you try and dress it up.

It's a compelling argument with an interesting twist. If we could hang on to the above list of players AND get £150m parachute payment AND another £150m on the way back up, plus say £150m of sales of players (Olise, Anderson Guehi and Henderson) as per the above list, and assume most of their contracts include a 20% pay cut, there is some appeal from the business perspective. And if it found a new owner for an attractive price.
