Most of my friends still 'mark the occasion' for birthdays ending in 0 (and sometimes 5), with perhaps a bit bigger 'do' for 50th, and 70th or 80th - the latter ones being a bit less raucous than the earlier ones.....

I agree, but who has time or the energy for loads of friends when you have a wife, kids and maybe grandchildren? I'm not going to trawl up old friends I never see who now live miles away just for a 60th birthday party.

The last time I had a big birthday bash was my 21st in 1968. Drank rather too much, danced a lot to The Beatles Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da and dumped my girlfriend for a girl I invited from work who I drove home from Carshalton to Anerley. She's now my wife of 53 years. I'm dreading the family planning something for my 80th in a couple of years time. I'm much happier at home with my favourite Bourbon.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I hired a canal boat complete with bar, buffet and music on the Birmingham canal for both my 60th and 65th birthdays and had a great time.
