Something seems to be going wrong for our youngsters.

Both Gordon (Cambridge) and Plange (Carlisle) have been returned without setting the world alight. This is the 3rd disappointing loan Plange has now had.

Others such as Phillips at Wycombe has been in and out of the team and i think the only regular is the goalie, Goodman, at Colchester.

Phillips in particular looked highly rated and had a good loan at Shrews last year. A few Championship clubs were interested in the summer and he signed a new contract. This year he seems to have gone backwards.

Maybe they are just not good enough

I think it just highlights the huge gap between youth team football and the professional league. There can of course be situations where the loan just doesn't work out for whatever reason but when it's back to back unsuccessful loans then you have to start to wonder (Plange).

Boateng has been a regular starter at Dundee in the Scottish Premiership so has been playing at a reasonable level.

Balmer has been injured and I think he's struggling now to get game time.

Doesn't fill you with hope does it.

I'm more worried about the guys that should be out but aren't. Would love to know what the plan is with:

Ebiowei
JRS
Adaramola
Franca

Not sure how sensible it is to get to the end of the season without any professional experience in any of them

JRS & Ahamada are rumoured to be going out in this window, or in the summer. Ola-Adebola is going to Shrewsbury & has already been seen in the stands.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

Boateng has had a few loans now. Probably not Prem class but perhaps a decent lower champ/div 1 signing.

Balmer has been unlucky with injuries - he is 23 now though so again maybe the club need to make a decision. We need to avoid another Inniss.

Ola-Adebola is going to Shrewsbury i think - good opportunity, and they need striker based on the chances they missed v Wrexham.

Plange is a dilemma. Cut his teeth in the Champ and we paid a cool £1m for him. Scored a hat trick in a pre season game and looked useful. Now after 3 failed loans, the last of which he was unable to get a game in a struggling Div 1 side, it is unclear where his future lies.

Maybe needs to get some confidence back playing for the U21s

That's my understanding - not Colchester.

Cheers DB, I have corrected my post, God knows why I thought it was Colchester.

Aporos Shrewsbury, last season both Killian Phillips and Rob Street were loaned to the club when Steve Cotterill was the manager.
