I think the Cartoon was the classic revue, AC/DC, Bad Company and Status quo on the same night, 1975 i think.

The Bromley Court Hotel was running gigs for years, with some (then) big names too - including Jimmy Hendrix....
A stairway to Heaven and a Highway to Hell give some indication of expected traffic numbers |

I've been to The Old Trout in Windsor a few times, before it was bought out by a pub chain. Acts that played there included Spiritualized, Pop Will Eat Itself, Oasis, Blur. The shame about these older venues, is that smartphones weren't around then to record/take photos of these great acts performing at small venues. We tend to have grainy/blurred photos and some memories to tell the tales.

I went to the Agincourt in Camberley a few times. It seemed to be a large pub run by Hells Angels. They had some good acts from time to time in the 1990's. I recall seeing Lawnmower Deth there on one memorable occasion.

I saw Roxy Music at The Greyhound in 1972. Went to that venue a few times, but that's the one I really remember. Not a small venue obviously, but the Fairfield Halls in those days was a great place to see established bands.

I was at the Bromley Court earlier this year for a family gathering and I was amused to see various references to their past history as a music venue. They seem especially proud of the fact that Hendrix played there. Alas, no more originals, but quite a number of tribute acts. My favourite (local) venue for up and coming bands was Wallington Public Hall every Tuesday night. Just about every band from the Stones to Freddie and The Dreamers - all except The Beatles who achieved fame about the time they were booked and took themselves to bigger venues. We used to pay Five Shillings (25p) to get in, although they charged Seven and Six (37p) to see the Stones who only played for about 20 minutes. Fighting ensued. Also, got to mention Eel Pie Island. Pink Floyd with Syd Barrett still heading them up was quite a night. Great times.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Another great 60's/70's venue (if you had transport) was The Wire Mill near East Grinstead.
