Man Utd ban four media outlets from news conference Simon Stone Manchester United have banned four media outlets from today’s news conference after claiming they had not been given right of reply to negative stories about the club. Sky, ESPN, Manchester Evening News and the Mirror have all been excluded from manager Erik ten Hag’s briefing ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League game with Chelsea after reporting some players were unhappy with the Dutchman and his methods. “We are taking action against a number of news organisations today, not for publishing stories we don’t like, but for doing so without contacting us first to give us the opportunity to comment, challenge or contextualise,” read a club statement. “We believe this is an important principle to defend and we hope it can lead to a re-set in the way we work together.”
This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise. |

When you resort to lashing out at the media, you know it is the beginning of the end...

Perhaps the stories have revealed the actualite and the club are not best pleased that the truth has been outed.Just speculation on my part. Finally, it would seem that before any article is published about the club they want it 'Signed-off' by them. Edited by Willo (05 Dec 2023 1.27pm)

Stupid. Some day they will sack the manager, all clubs do so what is the point of alienating the media when anyone can see that United are not playing well. Why not do what every other club does when they find themselves in the stocks. "The board backs the manger 100%" As for what the media said, I think it is fair comment, it's not like they have accused him of same awful crime. Throwing your weight around just makes them look silly, if I was a United fan I would be embarrassed. Edited by Badger11 (05 Dec 2023 2.13pm)

I suppose the first question has to be "what is the normal protocol observed when the media are writing about Man Utd" - i.e do Man Utd ordinarily have the opportunity to comment or contextualize on a story before it goes to print / publish ? If they have some set of ground rules in place where the media run stories past the club first then I can understand them being a tad miffed.

To be fair, if I were running a football club I'd tell all the news outlets to do one.

It's nice to have a little light relief from our own problems.
I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything. |

When I started supporting Palace back in the sixties we did not have press conferences before or after the match. The media is a crocodile you have to keep feeding it however I notice that United don't complain when Gary at al are drooling over a United win. If you get into bed with the media you have to accept that there will be negative stories. What is so bad about this one. "Some players think that Ten hats is not doing a good job". I think most United fans would agree with that.

In his first season at Man Utd, in the last campaign, the club finished 3rd in the PL and reached the FA Cup Final. This season they have lost nearly half of the league games, currently sit 7th and are in real danger of being eliminated from the CL at the Group Stage.Man Utd supporters expect better despite any extenuating circumstances and I suspect have concluded there are problems behind the scenes. Edited by Willo (06 Dec 2023 8.53am) shockingly bad , considering the tons of money they always have. even the rumours of Old Purple Nose Ferguson being a good manager. i beg to differ. If my cat had that kind of money, they would have done at least as well.
