I see no point in buying anybody in Jan, i think that we all suspect that Roy will not be the manager next season, the bottom three will get relegated, none of them will get 25 points, IMHO Roy should depart after Christmas and let Paddy take over with Ray until the end of the season, i am sure he will introduce some youngsters in to see how they do, i can see no point in spending until next years manager is chosen, a couple of loans with option to buy is a better route for me. but sell nobody until the end of the season.

Is it £3M a place higher in the pL ? Buying the right player for £15M in january could be a no brainer

Not really, I’m with Elpis, if we sign a player for £15 and he’s a success and helps keep us comfortable up, who gives a s*** what the new manager thinks of him next summer? It’ll be money well spent even if the new manager doesn’t fancy him

A few points here.

1) We're ten points clear of the relegation zone only because of Everton's deduction. If it wasn't for that we'd only be 6 points clear. One win in six games, let's not start getting arrogant about being safe.
2) As we now know our transfer strategy is about opportunism, so if a bargain presents itself we'll take it, if not we won't.
3) I'm certainly not confident that Roy won't be here next season. Can easily see him staying on.
4) If we're saying that we're basically safe (we're not) then why wouldn't you sell anybody in January given that prices are inflated? If someone comes in with 80m for Guehi we'll definitely take it.
5) Africa cup of Nations starts mid January so we'll lose several players to that.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

I am certainly NOT assuming that we will be 'Safe' from relegation and I suspect there is a growing body of supporters who believe we will be in a relegation dogfight.

I had formed the opinion that we would not be drawn into a nerve-wracking scenario but suffice to say I have revised my thinking and I am far from optimistic about our prospects this season.

Everton may have lost yesterday but they are not going down without a fight and we just lost to Luton. This is certainly no time to be thinking we're safe already especially with Doucoure possibly now out for the season.

The next two games have suddenly become much bigger.

can't help thinking Luton now are like us 10 years ago, organised, with a will to win and a ferocious crowd.

We are worryingly soft...

4 playoff finals, Claridge, Hopkin, Shipperley, Phillips....

Life's never dull!

I disagree with the reply's to my OP, although everybody has their opinion, I hope and think Roy will retire before the end of the season and Paddy will take over as a temporary manager, and hopefully we will see more youner players on the bench, we will not get relegated 100%, Willo you say every year we are going down, The loan system, for some reason we dont use effectively, we can get 4 in for Jan, if wanted , The AFCON will only affect Ayew, as Doucoure is out for the Season, I think we should be looking at Andoni Iraola as a long term replacement, to me he fits the criteria, although i do think the job will go to Paddy.

I accept I have been pessimistic about our chances of survival over several seasons but this season I was infused with a degree of optimism. Alas my optimism has dissipated and I am genuinely concerned about our prospects.

Does anybody seriously think that Sheff Utd, Burnley or Everton will get more than 25 points, the longer the season goes on Everton will fade away.
