Ok this may upset a few but as they are about to embark on a European adventure, it seems that Brighton by pretty much any measure are pulling way ahead of us.

They are cementing their reputation earned last season as a tough team to beat, they are soaring up the league and staying there. That have stability, they seem to buy players for buttons then sell them on at a huge profit only to unearth a better option for less buttons.

Ok we have been in the league longer and we have a great academy (even if we seem to not be seeing the results in terms of the first team right now.

What are they doing right that we are not?

Much as it pains me to say they have leapt forward in terms of their play and how they are run. Their scouting and recruitment model is seeing them getting top dollar in terms of sales that they are reinvesting and managerial choices in Potter and De Zerbi has been excellent. I don't even think that the most hopeful Brighton fan would have envisaged how good De Zerbi has been in managing the team.

But they are going to been tested far more so soon. Playing on a Thursday and Sunday does take it's toll and you've seen that with other teams in the past. Look at West Ham's form in the league last season for example. Do Brighton have enough depth in their squad to cope? Possibly but a few injuries and suspensions will take a toll.

And I think the other elephant in the room is De Zerbi. Inevitably as least one of the so called bigger clubs will sack their manager this season. At the moment that looks potentially like Man U but too early to say. I would say that De Zerbi would be high up on the list for that job or for most of the other big jobs.

I can’t say I’m losing too much sleep over it because It’s a moment in time, we’ll see if they can sustain it. If they beat us 5-0 or beat us in some sort of semi final like we’ve inflicted on them then maybe I might be a tad more bothered, but even then I’d still rather be a s*** Palace than a successful weed.

Vision and recruitment.

It feels from the outside that they have a plan. That dictates the way they play, the players the bring in and their manager choice. And as a result they aren't looking for 'names' or prem experience.

It may explain why a few of their sales have struggled in their new teams, they were signed for how well they were playing in the Brighton system.

The thing that they are doing that nobody else seams to be doing is spotting talent early. Like years early.

But not just that, they sign them early with a plan/pathway to the first team. e.g.
Mitoma, signed in '21 went immediately on loan (the day after)
Caicedo, 6 month loan and then into the first team
Mac Allister - 2 immediate loans in Argentina

We on the other hand feel like we are unearthing gems, when we sign the EFL young player of the season. And never really feel like we have a plan.

They seemingly took the risk of investing in the long-term rather the short-term and it's paying dividends. They actually spent quite a lot of money on relatively unknown players and they haven't all paid off but the ones that have, have big time. Parish seems more risk averse which has seen us build a solid team with some real quality and a safe manager at the helm, but Franca is the first example of us taking a relatively big risk on a player. Hopefully Parish's long-term plans for the academy will start to pay off and in a couple of years we'll see players like Ozoh and Raymond being raved about. As they say, form is temporary, class is permanent.

Nonsense. We have a similar approach with virtual unknowns

Nathan Ferguson signed 2020 - 3+ year loan to treatment room
Matheus Franca signed 2023 - indefinite loan to the treatment room

Their newish 30.000 seater stadium helps , a board of directors intead of investors maybe

I think they were also super quick to cotton on (they may even have jumped the gun ) in identifying the new international transfer rules post Brexit as a source of cheaper good standard players . They basically took their pick of South American talent while evryone else including us were still buying duds from the Championship and Europes minor leagues

We wont get close to Europe or the top half of the league until we redevelop the ground (or move) . We are basically treading water till then .

I question the use of "right now" in the original post because, if we are honest, they've been better than us for a while now. Sure, we've nicked some points from them - victories even - but we've done that against Man City without any delusions that they aren't a far better side than we are.

The answer to the question is simple. Money. It's not an exact correlation, obviously, but in principle the more money a club has, the more successful it will be. There are books on the subject that all reach this inevitable conclusion.

They have a chairman in Tony Bloom who knows his onions. Got a brilliant recruitment strategy and have employed young managers who have done very well. Our recruitment policy with Freedman has been crap. Vieira didnt come off in the end after a promising start. We should have replaced him with another young manager.

Bloom wouldnt have replaced Potter with Chris Hughton after he sacked him!! But our wonderful chairman went back to the manager he sacked.

Hodgson was not sacked, hedjd not wish to renew his contract. If you have a link that shows he was sacked please post.
Brighton recruitment is bearing fruits atm but they signed numerous duds previously. Will it continue, I suspect not as players will insist on release clauses and higher wages, which Brighton are reluctant to do

Ok not sacked then. But Tony Bloom would never have gone full circle when Potter was sacked and gone back to Hughton or Gus Poyet. He appointed De Zerbi and look whats happened.

When Parish decided to sack Vieira he should have already had a young ambitious manager lined up and not gone back to a guy who had left less than 2 years before.

Sorry I know you lot are all Parish fanboys on here but he isnt fit to lace Tony Blooms boots.
