What an awful piece of reporting. No wonder no arrests made if they went Mitchim!

What is rape nowadays?
Apparently, what Rubiales did was called violent sexual conduct.
So I am guessing rape may be grabbing hold of someone.
In fact, it could be that Rubiales actions may be referred to as rape.

Spanish law is problematic about sexual offences, there has been lots of controversy over the last few years so maybe not a good example.

In the UK I actually think that the law is too tightly defined. On the sexual assault trial where I was a juror the judge told us that in order to find the person guilty we had to believe that the accused had grabbed her buttocks and then her v***** pulling her onto his crotch. If we did not believe all of this then he was not guilty.

None of us believed that he had grabbed her v***** in the manner outlined as this was a public place with hundreds of witnesses and even a photographer who took pictures at the time of the assault.

If however he was simply charged with "sexual assault by touching" I think we might have had a split vote. It was certainly possible that he grabbed her behind as he was drunk and standing behind her so others may not have seen.

Anyway I think the law is far too specific to get a conviction.

It's a bit like when someone steals your chequebook they are not charged with that but with 50 separate offences (one for each cheque).

Commonsense does not seem to play a big part in the law.

You're telling me. The report makes no sense at all & add to the fact that the picture of Fair Green is at least 9 years old, MaccyD's has long gone & is Poundland, the footpath is now a 2-way Bus Lane, the clock tower has been re-located, all in all a very shoddy & very lazy piece of journalism.

Knowing the area, do people honestly think this is likely to be something like Hermoso and Rubiales? This is likely a violent attack and probably all too common.

So true.I wish I had learnt that at an earlier part of my life. I always gave the law so much credibility.

There was an item on my local TV news about these wimmin who visit schools to talk to groups of girls about 'unwanted attention from men'. A group of 6th formers (ergo aged 16 to 18 ) had to write on a graffiti board about an incident that they had been a victim of.

The reporter highlighted one girl's writing which said: "I was walking down the street when an older man walking towards me said "ooh, you're really nice" as he passed by".

Call the cops!

The reporter asked how old the man was and she replied "probably 20 or more". There followed a grilling about how it made her feel...how she doesn't trust men...etc, etc.

How times have changed... and not necessarily for the better!

At eighteen, in a mini-skirt & heels, long hair down to my waist, I'd be disappointed if I didn't get a whistle or two from a building site.

You then tossed you hair as if you didn't care, turned and smiled at the whistler, and if he was fit maybe give him a little wave... then you went on your way with your ego and confidence having been given a nice boost by the attention. This was also true for most other girls I knew...... strangely, non of us ever suffered mental health problems either.....

I now have an image in my head of you looking like Cathy McGowan in a tight sweater, short mini skirt & knee length boots with heels . . . Phew, need a cold shower now
