I think quite simply you just can’t beat that feeling when your team scores or when I was playing scoring a goal myself. Especially as palace fans our goals are a bit more few and far between. Some Man.City fans look almost bored these days when they score.

Nearly 50 years ago when I first started going I’ve never forgotten that feeling in my first few games against the likes of Rotherham, Mansfield and Hereford of seeing my team score LIVE, it was only 3rd division, but that buzz has carried on through my life. Even if it’s a scrappy own goal at home to say Grimsby on a cold Tuesday night or a scrappy 1-0 Pulis or Roy win of a few years ago, I might not throw myself about like a silly sod now, but that feeling is still there to this day.

Yes, I feel the same but what about the non-Palace game in general?

It was never about liking football it was about having a day out with your mates and later with my sons , going on the football special having a beer or two , cheering and hoping you would win the game which always made the journey home that much better .
Going to Selhurst on a Saturday was special , a Tuesday night even more so ,the smell of onions and pipe tabbacco ,peanuts fora sixpence and all that .
But yes I never really liked football , I loved it .

There came a time just a season before we were promoted that I realised I didn't like the modern game of all seated stadiums endless sideways and back passing described above and I had been going to matches out of habit . It was time to have a break .

So my premier league years with Palace have been without my cherished season ticket , I go when I feel like it when we play on Saturday afternoon but its not for the football on offer but then it hasn't been for a long time

Hmmmm, now I think of it, it’s a good question, because outside of palace, I’m struggling, even the great Rangers v Celtic fixture which I love watching has been ruined because of the lack of away fans killing the atmosphere

It's been part of my life for nearly 60 years. You can't beat the sheer joy and elation when Palace win, particularly against a big side or in an important game. I get a buzz for days afterwards.

It is a distraction from the day to day hum drum. I can immerse myself in the drama of the game and for 90 minutes it is the most important thing in my life. It is unpredictable and you never know what course the the story will take and how it will end (unless we are away to Spurs).

I am generally a temperate undemonstrative person, but football gives me an arena in which a to vent my emotions. There is no other area of my life where I shout, swear, curse, gesticulate and, generally lose it, so it is probably therapeutic and good for me.
