From what he's said to a Danish outlet, it seems the player was being sought by Newcastle (and possibly Spurs). He is wanting to move to a bigger club and as he says, given his age it needs to be soon. I suspect he may well be on his way in one of the next two windows.

As he says in the article when he moves isn’t just up to him. We kept Wilf for years despite constant interest and him presumably wanting a move in many windows. So it’s not a done deal Andersen will go just yet. £50m seems light given the current market?

Just because a player is wanted in one window doesn't mean that he will be wanted in the next one. Other players may break through and catch the eye of the bigger club or a better player who was previously unavailable becomes so. I don't want to sell anyone at the moment.

So Andersen's agents spoke to Newcastle a number of times. What happened to the 'tapping up' laws, which I thought still existed?

However, the bigger clubs are beginning to learn. Arsenal wouldn't pay our asking price for Zaha but promptly offered that kind of figure for the disaster that was Pepe. In this recent window clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, etc. have had to pay the price demanded by the smaller clubs for players who've performed in the PL. There are too many players who\ve come from the European leagues for big money who have failed to make the grade. So, there has to be a premium on players who have done it in the PL for smaller clubs. If a big club come in with a big enough offer for one of our star players, I can well see the board accepting it. Edited by doombear (06 Sep 2023 11.25am)

Usual paper talk during the international break. He is not really saying anything that anyone wouldn't say to the questions asked . Having said that its probably the time to sell if the club want to get maximum value . We could use the money to buy a centre back who can win a header in his own penalty box

Far too much can be read into this sort of short interview. Nothing in it is outside of what you might expect . Yes there were rumours, but nothing happened, so just rumours. Would he want to play for for a top club ? What player would not seriously consider such an option? And yes if it’s going to happen it better be soon. He will be close to thirty when his contract ends, So he never thought going to a big club was going to be the subject of a simple transaction.

Yeah, not much in this. All players are going to have plans of getting to the top. And hopefully we have learnt our lesson with Wilf. We need to judge wen players are at the top (performance and value), vs holding on to them whilst both of the former lessen

I suppose the good thing for us is that we are a big Premier League side now. There aren’t many team’s better than us other than the few usual suspects. Even less in each European league and if he does go it will be for a large fee unless like Zaha he runs his contract down. It’s a good position clubs like us are in that have brought cheap(ish) and can sell on for much higher amounts. Well done Parish and Dougie! The Saudi league may be the better payers but do players like Andersen feel it would enhance their career going there? I doubt it?

Every time there was a corner for the following games I hid behind the sofa. However they had spotted the hole and plugged it. Roy was very unhappy with both goals conceded against wolves and I suspect will flog the team to ensure there is no repeat.
