Now it’s passed , how do people evaluate the window? Negatives Positives Longer term Henderson and Holding may turn about to be shrewd purchases as we don’t appear to have overpaid and Guiata has to be replaced and eventually Tomkins too will need replacing. The club has a lot of credit in the bank for purchases in recent seasons, but if you analyse this last window in isolation it would be difficult to score it higher than a charitable 6 out of 10.

To not get another striker is a massive problem, Edouard and Mateta do not give us enough of a cutting edge at this level. If the likes of Forest and Bournemouth can do It, why on earth can’t we? SP tells us we are an “established Premiership side” then it’s about time we started acting like one!

Well losing Wilf felt like a bereavement. losing Wilf brought no money in so we couldnt spend on another player in large amounts , brighton got lucky with players selling at inflated prices so had money to spend , we should have sold wilf 2 seasons ago and strengthen the squad with the money but all those on here kept saying no it would mean relegation , you didnt know , no one did , all people want is spend spend spend at all cost because they know how to run a football club NOT , so we are doing the best job with the tools we have ,

This window was always about who we sold rather than who we bought, so to have lost only Wilf must been seen as a great result. We have, with the exception of right back, a brilliant first 11 if and when everyone is fit, but therein lies the problem. With Olise and Franca out we are insisting on using Schlupp as a wide attacker, which just shouldn’t still be happening. All in all, though, happy enough. I can’t see us going down and we should have a decent war chest for next summer’s inevitable big-name departures.

I agree with the OP. Feels like sensible signings of DH, RH and JL. Franca is obviously an exciting talent.

Incidentally, my reference to bereavement was a cheeky dig at the thread title (transfer WIDOW). However, Wilf's departure did free up a large amount of expenditure, and we used a chunk of that saving to improve Olisé's contract

Another stereotypical Palace window really. Failing yet again to bring in players in areas where they are most needed. Yet another season of enduring Joel Ward at right back as well.. We complain about our lack of creativity yet we insist on playing a right back and left back who are poor going forward and can only ever seem to be able to pass backwards. Don't get me wrong we will stay up. Luton and Sheffield United are so poor that 2 of the 3 relegation places are taken already really which will just leave one place to fight over. I do fear if we carry on with this lack of ambition and doing everything on the cheap then it will catch up with us in the end. As great as it is to of kept our big players we also have to be realistic and accept that this will most probably be Eze, Doucoure and Guehi's last season at the club. That will leave massive gaps next season.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |
