Now it’s passed , how do people evaluate the window?
I’ve looked back at the early posts on the topic and nobody was asking for a centre half, but everybody was looking for a wide forward and/or a striker.

Negatives
- the squad remains unbalanced, top heavy in central defenders and light in attacking quality
- we lack pace and quality in wide areas
- if we struggle in games the weakness of forward options on the bench won’t help
- we’ve not exploited the loan market

Positives
- we’ve retained our quality players other than Zaha
- Lerma looks like a good signing

Longer term Henderson and Holding may turn about to be shrewd purchases as we don’t appear to have overpaid and Guiata has to be replaced and eventually Tomkins too will need replacing.
It is difficult to understand why we haven’t strengthened in wider areas as there were plenty of options available either via purchase or loan and we’ve seen these options move to the likes of Bournemouth, Forest, Fulham and Brighton .
If it’s true that we were hanging our hat on the young forward with PSG by agreeing terms with the player, but as of last night not contacting PSG formally, it all seems a bit bizarre.
It doesn’t sound a serious proposition with no plan B or time left for alternatives in the very likely scenario of the deal not happening.

The club has a lot of credit in the bank for purchases in recent seasons, but if you analyse this last window in isolation it would be difficult to score it higher than a charitable 6 out of 10.
If the so far unproven Franca turns out well there is potential for that score to be higher.

To not get another striker is a massive problem, Edouard and Mateta do not give us enough of a cutting edge at this level. If the likes of Forest and Bournemouth can do It, why on earth can’t we?

SP tells us we are an “established Premiership side” then it’s about time we started acting like one!

Well losing Wilf felt like a bereavement.

Some might say Forrest are a ‘bigger’ team

losing Wilf brought no money in so we couldnt spend on another player in large amounts , brighton got lucky with players selling at inflated prices so had money to spend , we should have sold wilf 2 seasons ago and strengthen the squad with the money but all those on here kept saying no it would mean relegation , you didnt know , no one did , all people want is spend spend spend at all cost because they know how to run a football club NOT , so we are doing the best job with the tools we have ,

For the fans it’s 5/10, if Parish it’s 10/10 because we don’t have the strike power to get into Europe (which he doesn’t want because it forces him to spend) and we have enough mids and defenders to avoid relegation.

This window was always about who we sold rather than who we bought, so to have lost only Wilf must been seen as a great result. We have, with the exception of right back, a brilliant first 11 if and when everyone is fit, but therein lies the problem. With Olise and Franca out we are insisting on using Schlupp as a wide attacker, which just shouldn’t still be happening. All in all, though, happy enough. I can’t see us going down and we should have a decent war chest for next summer’s inevitable big-name departures.

I agree with the OP.

Feels like sensible signings of DH, RH and JL.

Franca is obviously an exciting talent.

I totally agree with you. Incidentally, my reference to bereavement was a cheeky dig at the thread title (transfer WIDOW).

However, Wilf's departure did free up a large amount of expenditure, and we used a chunk of that saving to improve Olisé's contract

Another stereotypical Palace window really. Failing yet again to bring in players in areas where they are most needed.
I still find it odd that we have paid £20m on a back up goalkeeper.
We are seriously short in forward options and now have to rely pretty much on Mateta and Edouard as our only strikers. Very frustrating when you see clubs like Forest bring in somebody like Origi on loan. I'm not saying Origi would of been the answer but he certainly would of provided us with another quality option.

Yet another season of enduring Joel Ward at right back as well.. We complain about our lack of creativity yet we insist on playing a right back and left back who are poor going forward and can only ever seem to be able to pass backwards.

Don't get me wrong we will stay up. Luton and Sheffield United are so poor that 2 of the 3 relegation places are taken already really which will just leave one place to fight over. I do fear if we carry on with this lack of ambition and doing everything on the cheap then it will catch up with us in the end.

As great as it is to of kept our big players we also have to be realistic and accept that this will most probably be Eze, Doucoure and Guehi's last season at the club. That will leave massive gaps next season.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!
