We've needed one for ages. Trouble is, no matter how much you pay for one there's no guarantee he'll deliver. One with a half decent record will be how much? £40 million? That's the minimum I suspect.

So buying a proven striker is beyond our budget. What options are left? I see just two options - Gamble on lower league or foreign league offerings showing potential. Or develope from within.

We rarely try the second option.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Get a quick gutsy poacher type striker from the lower leagues.

The beatings will stop when morale improves.

100% guarantee - Mateta and Edouardo are not the answer. That goes for Ward and Schlupp as well.

We got some success at the back end of last season from playing Ayew as the main striker being fed by Olise and Eze. Badly need Olise back.

What, you mean like Gyokeres who has gone to Portugal for just £17m and is banging the goals in there? I cannot believe how we have missed out on players like this.

My thoughts are that unless Mateta goes we wont be signing anyone.

It's a real problem and ironic given out Director of Football was a decent striker for us.
I'd go for a lower league option. Edouardo and Mateta were imports.
I agree both will probably still be here this time next week, in which case give Mateta an extended run -6 games. At least he helps with defending corners. I'm sure I'll be corrected but isn't his goal return better, although that may depend whether you measure on games or minutes.

If we had Zaha, Olise (or other good wide players) available at the moment I believe Roy would revert to this system with Ayew down the middle and we wouldn't be seeing too much of either Edouard or Mateta.

He wanted Champions League football and wasn't interested in any mid-table PL club.

For me he is a more threat when we are in the penalty box. I would prefer him on the field at Arsenal game for last 20 min. He was for sure terrible last year during Viera time but all team was dull. Roy never gave him a minute.

If no transfer, he needs to utilize him by giving more confidence and he may deliver if we have pattern of two-digit shots per game.

I'm not sure we can say he is banging them in after only two games. Yes he scored twice on his debut but so did Edouard for us.

If only it was that easy, as Ange at spurs said, SOME fans need to realise, buying players is not as easy as telling the mrs you’re just popping down the supermarket to buy some players. There’s so much more involved. SP and Dougie are not stupid, im sure they would’ve bought a striker by now if the right one at the right price was available and if he wanted to join us of course.

We wanted Danny Ings last season, but he’s not exactly been banging them in for the spammers. It’s been obvious for a long time, we don’t just bring in players for the sake of it, they have to be right.
