Perhaps one to dismantle the view of some that referees act solely in the interest of objectively officiating a football match, not that I'm naming any names, whether that be Willo or anyone else...

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

It is tantamount to cheating.
"Sorry you got relegated but I didn't want my mate to get any more grief even though a VAR decision would have saved you."
Dean obviously suffered though and has now gone which is good. It is a tough job and under Webb even more so now.

I do like what Howard web is doing lately he is trying to make the referee's more transparent and make us see them as human with feelings.

It must be hard being a ref booed every game somtimes dreading the weekend. I certainly would not be able for it.

I have sat at some neutral games before without the rose tinted palace specs on and the refs get a lot of stick even when they make the right calls.

That being said they do make some awful decisions

f***ing unbelievable! Except it isn't.

VAR is a curse on our game . In the efforts to fix something that didn't need fixing they have in fact broken it .

If there was a vote on it today I would say get rid of it .

Absolute disgrace and just confirms the in built bias some of us have suspected over the years.

Indeed. How many other times have they “helped a mate?” The standard of officiating in the PL is getting worse and after this revelation, who would trust them again! Well, Willo would.
The PL likes to claim they are the best league in the World so sort out the officials then!

I sit near the tunnel at SP, believe me, the refs seem to revel in the abuse. The look of arrogance on their faces is staggering at times.
Would that be the Howard Webb who always seemed to favour Man Utd , when he was a ref? As soon as he retired he admitted being a Utd fan and was wined and dined at Old Trafford

As you have mentioned my name I thought I would enter the fray.

On HOL there have been accusations that I never accept that referees are wrong, however I have always maintained that referees are only human and as human beings they err from time to time having to make split-second decisions in real time in a fast moving game in a frenzied atmosphere.

Furthermore, as I have asserted numerous times, their performances are forensically examined after each game.

Howard Webb is a supporter of Rotherham.

This admission makes a real mockery of the presumed impartiality and "professionalism" of professional referees.

Why release this confession now? Has he got a book to sell? Is he hoping to get noticed and be asked onto Strictly?

Talk about erode the confidence of sports fans. I really would rather not have it confirmed that Mike Dean had no issue with choosing not to properly apply the rules. Perhaps a career in F1 officiating awaits?

I guess Anthony Taylor owed him one after that. I wonder if it was a Palace game when Taylor overlooked a clear mistake by Dean? And on it goes.

Having said all of that, I am not sure what the answer is. Just put up with it? Use foreign referees that should have less bias or are less likely to favour certain teams? Have tougher penalties for poor refereeing decisions? Maybe a start is to require them to explain their decisions by being "mic'd up" during the game or at interiew thereafter.
