I’m sure this subject must be posted elsewhere, but I thought Rak-Sakyi looked pretty composed and threatening when he came on against Arse. That speaks volumes to me about his ability to handle the EPL. I would keep him. What am I missing?

I know some were impressed. I wasn’t so much and think he needs a year in the Championship. There are plenty of suitors and I reckon a year of hard work in that league will better prepare him.

Why hold him back.... neither him nor Ahamada looked out of place... let’s give him the opportunity...

His development is better served in a good Championship team.

His development is better served in a good Championship team. That would depend on the team and the coaches at the club . What happens if Olise takes longer than expected to get back , starts having recovery injuries and ends up playing every 2nd/3rd game ? We need back up whatever happens to Olise and Saki looks decent on the ball and worth a place on the bench . As long as Roy is going to give him game time I dont see why we wouldn't keep him at the club

I would certainly like to see both of them, Rak-Sakyi in particular, being given more opportunity to develop with our first team. They look the part already and their brief appearances show they can play a bit. Added game time can only improve them.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I'm very wary of the 'next Pele/Maradona/Rooney/Iniesta/Wilf/AWB' sentiments people express about youngsters, all seems very adrift from reality to me. Agree he did not look out of place but a very brief cameo, against a 10-man so sitting behind the ball Arsenal too, is not enough to rule him out or in IMHO. Would like to see a bit more of JRS in any instance but certainly before further commentary. At the very least he has yet to disgrace himself.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

You can tell very little from such a short cameo but I thought Rak-Sakyi looked fairly bright when he came on. I would not be loaning him out as things stand, simply because we don't have a big enough squad to lose players. If we sign a player or two for the forward line then fair enough, perhaps a loan is a good idea, but otherwise no chance. We can reassess in January depending on whether Olise and Franca are fit, and whether the latter has made much impact.

I wish I had a fiver for every promising young star over the years who’ve had a brief little spell coming off the bench in the first team for a game or two and everyone’s got excited about them, but after a string of loans end up signing for a lower or non league team. The latest example that springs to mind is Brandon Pierrick who came on as sub against Norwich three years ago, now playing for Croydon Athletic!! Edited by monkey (23 Aug 2023 3.44pm)

Would much rather see JRS given a chance on the right and ayew on the left than shlupp out wide again. If he has a run and seems to struggle a bit then maybe send him to the championship on loan, but with how lightweight our squad is at the moment, I don’t think we can afford to let him go.
