There's two shockers I witnessed - some of you away diehards can chip in with more (people say the 5-0 at Wigan was beyond abysmal, and there was a 1-7 at Huddesfield under Alan Smith and the 0-4 at home to scunthorpe). Sometimes a team is disorganised and there's no defending and you get tonked but there are other times like the England-Iceland game where the team isn't just bad they have a collective nervous breakdown, cannot string two passes together for the entire 90 minutes and everybody hides. Back in Feb 81 I went away and saw us put up a brave show in a 2-3 defeat away to that great Ipswich side. On the Tuesday following we were at home to Coventry and lost 0-3. It was 0-3 at half time and if Coventry had gone for it they could have scored 15. The other time was back in 74 after we had a famous 3-1 win at Fulham (Bobby Moore scored a consolation for them). A week or two later we played them at home and lost 0-2 - and it was another shocker, totally inept and gutless. Anyone remember those two or any others?

The 9-0 away to Liverpool some winters night i was at, but believe it or not we were not that bad, 5-0 at home to Wimbledon was awful, and away at Chelsea we had just gone 4 down, just after half time, and i left, they are the ones i remember as being awful

Brighton Boxing Day 79 springs to mind as well. We’d had such a good first few months after getting promoted, despite losing 3-0 at Liverpool the away game before we were expecting a big performance and we weren’t really used to abject performances from that great side, so to get beat comfortably 3-0 by that lot who we really did hate back then, after running the gauntlet of hate outside the ground, it really did feel like the team had let us down and ruined our Christmas

QPR 6 Palace 0

You know you’ve had a bad day when you get stuffed by QPR!! Although that was largely down to the disgusting behaviour of our keeper Kevin Miller who deliberately through in the towel because he hadn’t been paid on time

I was at the Derby game sometime late 1960's/early 1970's ( I think ). Derby scored at Holmesdale Rd end from a corner and I remember the scorer jumping miles into the air.
I don't know why it remains in my memory. Maybe the shame ?

As I recall, we (through Geoff Thomas) hit the post at 0-0. Imagine if that had gone in; we might have taken them! When the penalty was awarded to us, at 0-6, I sensed a comeback, but sadly Geoff was much less accurate from the spot than his previous effort; in fact I think the ball is currently somewhere between Mars and Jupiter and still rising.
