Before anyone starts trumpeting this as a major achievement of Brexit perhaps an examination of some facts are necessary. The need to build a battery factory of this type in the UK has been the subject of intense debate in past months following the failure of Britishvolt. It will be very heavily subsidised and has only come here, and not Spain, because of that. That’s not to undermine its importance but whether it actually produces wealth for us is something that only a future analysis can determine. Before anyone starts trumpeting this as a major achievement of Brexit perhaps an examination of some facts are necessary.

The need to build a battery factory of this type in the UK has been the subject of intense debate in past months following the failure of Britishvolt.

It will be very heavily subsidised and has only come here, and not Spain, because of that.

That’s not to undermine its importance but whether it actually produces wealth for us is something that only a future analysis can determine.

TATA will succeed or fail for the same reason, unless they have a long term deal with a mass car maker they will fail. I don't think making batteries for Jaguar will be enough as the volume will be too low. I don't see this as a Brexit win or loss it's just business and I am always worried when government gets involved to this extent, think British Leyland. The reason that company failed was they did not have any car customers tied into a deal.

TATA will succeed or fail for the same reason, unless they have a long term deal with a mass car maker they will fail. I don't think making batteries for Jaguar will be enough as the volume will be too low.

I don't see this as a Brexit win or loss it's just business and I am always worried when government gets involved to this extent, think British Leyland.
