Must be fake news surely

Before anyone starts trumpeting this as a major achievement of Brexit perhaps an examination of some facts are necessary.

The need to build a battery factory of this type in the UK has been the subject of intense debate in past months following the failure of Britishvolt.

It will be very heavily subsidised and has only come here, and not Spain, because of that.

That’s not to undermine its importance but whether it actually produces wealth for us is something that only a future analysis can determine.

The reason that company failed was they did not have any car customers tied into a deal.

TATA will succeed or fail for the same reason, unless they have a long term deal with a mass car maker they will fail. I don't think making batteries for Jaguar will be enough as the volume will be too low.

I don't see this as a Brexit win or loss it's just business and I am always worried when government gets involved to this extent, think British Leyland.

This looks like it includes a bail-out of Tata steel the subsidies estimated at 500 millions being kept secret.

Its something but car manufacturing needs much more investment, that is the post brexit major headache, there is only one other battery factory at Nissan.

So it is 4000 possible jobs, not 14000 and probably not anything like 4bn from Tata more likely from us.

But we'll take it, as they say.

Do you realise the stupidity of quoting a number for a secret subsidy.

Then again, probably not

Electric cars are 5hlt. I hope they're making batteries for other stuff too. Otherwise it will fail.
And these won't be skilled jobs. They'll be minimum wages jobs in an area, say Port Talbot, where people should be grateful

I should have spelt it Sauce to make the somewhat tame joke clear.

TATA - source/sauce. Get it?

I know, if you have to explain it, it's not funny.
