Mail are reporting that Sam Johnstone has a 10m release clause which Everton are looking to trigger? Surely we can't have been that foolish...

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

They can trigger away but it doesn't mean that he will want to join them

Can trigger all they want but if we're not looking to sell I don't see how it matters.

The clause in the contract just means we cant stop the player being approached by other clubs (if they offer the stated amount)

Doesnt mean he would want to move on though

After watching him in the latter part of the season, he really has cemented his place as our new number 1. It would be awful if we now lost him.

Hopefully, Parish will offer him a new contract - but without the clause

I would ask why would any young ambitious footballer with an ounce of sense consider joining Everton?

I wouldn't even add the 'young' or 'ambitious' to that statement.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Because IF they can turn it around they are a big club. Due to move into a big new stadium.

But you'd hope that after spending almost all of his career in the championship, he'll feel pretty happy to now be the starting keeper for a mid table prem side.

Isn't that exactly what a release clause is - so he can be sold even if we don't want to sell him?

amazed it's only 10m though.

Your 1st para: ...plus isn't it still the case that the player receives a percentage of the transfer fee, where he hasn't himself asked to leave? So there is an incentive to depart.

Your 2nd para: Everton is also a mid (ish) table prem side, and more likely to progress than CPFC.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

It has always been one of life's great mysteries to me as to why any ambitious footballer would want to join Everton.

If I were Parish, I'd write up a new contract for Johnson before he gets lured by a club that might actually win something.

I suspect as a bosman he is already on a very good salary and has 3 years still to go. No need to panic - yet!
