No idea how many fouls Brighton committed, but they looked bloomin' rough to me. Neville thought they were exceptional. I disagree. If that's the way to win matches then I'm pleased our lads have a less confrontational approach. Just stick to playing classy football. I always prefer to see Brighton lose so ..
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I'd quite like to have seen Arsenal win the title just to make a change.

I'd quite like to have seen Arsenal win the title just to make a change. I thought that too albeit to an extent. I think that's what most people loved about the 'Leicester season' as well. The stranglehold on success in this country, in recent history, was owned by United and Arsenal until Chelsea and City bought their way in and Liverpool stepped up their game, briefly anyways. I can see City and Newcastle being involved in a two horse race soon, where it's just Arab money vs Arab money for the prem title. Devalues it for me and I'd presume most and what will be interesting is if their owners lose interest. Therefore Arsenal are emerging as a 'lesser of x evils' as far as I am concerned however I did enjoy them bottling it as they are one fanbase that I really loathe. For a long time Arsenal was almost seen as 'the cool club' to support in London, and elsewhere, so the self-identifying Arsenal fan was/is ubiquitous, usually very far from a 'proper fan', probably been too the Emirates <5 times if at all and forever preaches about football with an incorrectly assumed superiority however ironically lacking in any real insight. Not too dissimilar from those proclaiming they support Millwall as they think it comes with an inherited 'hardness' where the opposite is usually true. So Arsenal, just to break the monotony and perhaps disprove that which feels inevitable, however watching them fold in a manner most associated with their neighbours and hated rivals is quite scrumptious too.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Been much better if Brighton had turned up and beaten Everton as on paper they should have done Everton would be in the right mire if they had done that. Wanted Arsenal to win today.

I think that after a team has won three titles they ought to be relegated to give someone else a chance.

This is why I've NEVER gloated about Palace victories with friends, colleagues or associates who happen to support the team we happen to beat, or are above in the league, etc. Firstly I know that it'll be "our turn" again soon enough, and secondly I very well "know how they feel", so I go for the empathetic approach. Different when "on the terraces" though, when gloating, and revelling in the opposition's misfortunes is "de rigeur".
Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes) |
