Years ago I went to see Fulham RLFC play Wakefield Trinity at Craven Cottage. It was sold to me as "something different to do on a Sunday afternoon". I still remember it as the coldest I've ever felt in my life. The wind was whipping off the Thames and through the stand I was sitting in. Absolutely effing freezing I was.

(Note to younger readers: this was on the olden days when Rugby League was played in the winter).

Good luck to those who are on the boat enjoy your day.

A word of warning a Millwall mate organised one a few years back all the charlie heads signed up (party boat) but regretted it when they got to Fulham.

Inspector Knacker and the sniffer dogs were waiting and everybody was searched and quite a few arrests were made.

According to my mate the sniffer dogs must have had the rest of the week off the amount of charlie that was consumed.

There are 2 boats going to Fulham, last reports that both were sold out. Majority of pax are well known to the organisers, so the likelihood of mistameanours are very slim.

This operation, will make the 'Charge Of The Light Brigade' seem like a simple military exercise.

I thought Private Eye was Inspector Corner (ie of the Yard) so I stand corrected.

All make sure you're two hours early for the boat safety video and demonstration. Drunk in charge of a boat is punishable by 12 lashes and a halving of your grog ration. And wear gloves, those f***ing oars give you splinters.

Sod that, I can’t swim, so I get nervous just being in Fulham’s ground that close to the Thames.

I haven't read PE for about 10 years so it may have changed.

My favourite line of theirs they have probably stopped using. When they wanted to insult a female celeb / politician

e.g. Gorgeous pouting beauty Diane Abbot gave a radio interview where she couldn't add up.

I wonder how many lawyers have had this conversation with their client.

Client "I want to sue private Eye they libelled me."

Lawyer "What did they say"

Client (in tears) "They called me a Gorgeous pouting beauty"

Did you ever go to Gay Meadow? There was a guy with a coracle (wicker boat) to collect the balls that went in the river. Was about the only interesting thing about the place. Never benn to the New Meadow. Not as catchy a name anyhow.
