I’m coming around to Roy staying on next year.

I posted on another thread it all depends on the boards spending plans. I suspect we will have another poor transfer window as the issues for the previous ones have not been resolved. If that is the case then Roy is a safe pair of hand. However if the board do decide to invest then we should go for a new manager.

This post really fits into 'Next Manager' doesn't it Patrick? But I agree there would appear to be a strong case for Mr Parish to retain the current management setup, especially with Paddy continuing to gain experience in his support role. I also believe Ray Lewington has more influence than he gets credit for and is about 10 years younger than Roy so what's not to like about him taking over the lead role? There's little doubt in my mind that the existing management is a far better bet than trying to mould an 'outsider' into the Palace family.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

I think giving Roy another year will give SP the perfect opportunity to not spend any money because Roy will be happy to work with a restricted budget.

Although Roy does seem to being enjoying himself and looking nice and relaxed during what is ostensibly a brief interim fill-in role I am not so certain that he is the way forward for next season and it poses the questions: What about the season after that? Where's the planning for 3 years down the line and bringing through the best of the Academy? Does Roy want to retire someday? This is not to say Roy isn't adept at his role here, he certainly knows the club and how to work successfully within the parameters set out thus far: avoid relegation / mid table / small spend.

The sun is shining, everything in the garden is rosy at the moment, however when we go again next season a lot of people could be on Roy’s back if thing aren’t working very well. The club have to move forward. Every season we are where we are now, round about 10/12 position, in the 10 years we have been in the prem we have probably spent no more than a few weeks in the top half. In the premiership treading water is the equivalent of going backwards.

We will have to change sooner or later, RH has vast experience and proves the point if you give a good manager/coach a decent set of players this is what can be achieved. PV lost his way after a very good start, just follows what happened with him in the past. Whatever is decided we can be certain SP will be doing his best to fill the role RH style. As a side issue we need to build on this base of talent we have with the hope the academy will produce a new Wilf or two!! COYP

It's almost as if the last month has been a nice holiday for him doing the things he loves doing. He bats away awkward questions about the next manager, Wilf etc., by stating his limited brief was to keep us up. Turn it into a one-year contract for next season and would be back to serious work etc. As to Parish, it's not just that Roy is a safe pair of hands, he's shown he can work with what's there - very tempting for a man who has limited resources for player recruitment.
