4 lads near me left after 3 minutes of injury time last week. Missed the goal and the amazing old Selhurst atmosphere at full time to save 1 minute. I get if you are 2 or 3 down although I don’t even then; but at 1-1 anything can and evidently did happen. Thoughts?

Always find leaving early strange. What if you miss a 50 yard bicycle kick? I have left early 3 times in 45 years:- Millwall away in early 80’s - they had hundreds in our end and my bottle was going about the walk back to the station. West Ham away - lost 3-0. I threw myself out before the copper did. Could not believe we decided not to mark Defoe and voiced my opinion. QPR home - lost 3-0. Derry got nutmegged by Tarrabt and generally played like a t***. We needed to win put in one of the most pathetic performances I have ever seen. My daughter came with me for once and begged me not to say anything but I had to tell Derry what I thought!

I think the gold medal for leaving early has to go to the West Ham fans. I have never seen a stadium like it. They harp on about being great fans but as soon as they go 1 down have the stadium clears off and the rest boo them.

Only left early once, Palace Vs Watford, midweek game couple seasons ago, Watford went ahead , we spent 85 minutes looking like we were doing absolutely nothing, it was a cold night so I reluctantly decided to head off to the train station at about 87 minutes gone, by the time I was 50 yards outside the Holmesdale end gate we equalized & by the time I had got to Selhurst train station Jimmy mac had bundled in the winner, lol

I don't think anyone can criticise you for such a shrewd move (although it must have been earlier or later than you recall, as we didn't play Millwall in the early 80s, or maybe it was a 'friendly'). I once had the pleasure of being surrounded by rabid Millwall fans when I was determined to go to The Den in March 1987, but the only way to get in was to pretend to be a Millwall fan and enter a section down one side of the ground. When we scored, my 'internal celebration' was akin to suppressing the world's biggest sneeze, while the Neanderthals around me bayed for blood. They got more and more angry as the game progressed, but having remained 'incognito' it was easy to slip away at the end of the match. I can't remember ever leaving a match before the final whistle, but there's been many where I've immediately left in anger once that whistle was blown!

I can't remember who it was against or when it was but it was a floodlit game and we were embarrassingly bad. Two incidents persuaded me to get home early, the first was when our centre forward broke free from a foul on the halfway line with a clear run at goal with the ref waving play on behind him and instead of that he stops and pi cks the ball up giving away a free kick.

I never leave early, we do go and stand up the top of the stairs in the Whitehorse to get a quick get away, we’ve seen a few late goals for and against while standing up there over the years, once we even had to go back to our seats for extra time as Sullay Kai Kai equalised against pardews Newcastle in the cup

I hate to tell you this, but we came back and won 5-4 When we were 3-0 down I left. As I was in the carpark I heard a cheer. I thought we'd scored as it was loud and thought - just my luck. Always thought it was 3-1. Anyway, was watching Premier League Gold or some such and the game was on - the cheers were ironic - 4-0. Didn't know for maybe twenty years as I was repressing that and several other Palace memories.

That was against Wolves. I thought the goalie was Kolinko, but that may only be because it was such a display of incompetence. Because of my age I now leave when the extra time is announced, unless it's several minutes. And it seems to help the team. I missed Olise's goal against Manchester United and Mateta's against Leicester. As I got to my car on that latest occasion I saw a woman sitting in a car, holding a portable radio. I looked at her enquiringly and she wound down the window and I asked what was the score. 2-1. Who scored? Mateta - followed by "Shame he's done f**k all the rest of the season!"
