He looked off the pace against villa in the time he came on , as much as I’d love to see the Mcarthur we know and love I think he’s done….

After such a long time out,I think to be given your first start of the season would not be very wise. So that'll probably make him a nailed on starter.

Palace fans seem to be a nostalgic bunch and don't take into consideration a player's longevity, hence the desperate calls for McArthur to return, as if a 35 year old can somehow magically regain the form from 4 or 5 years ago where he managed to play over 30 league games a season, pre injury.

I'd plump for Hughes - he has more than a bit of bite in the tackle. I'd also encourage him to shoot from outside the penalty area. Despite best endeavours we seem incapable of scoring inside the box, so best revert to the approach that paid rich dividends for Darren Ambrose. A few long-range screamers is what we need. My only concern about Hughes is his lack of speed and his impulsiveness - he gets too many cards, and he gets them early.

Im not saying he should start next week. But “regain form from 4/5 years ago?”

I would be tempted to start with Macca (60 mins) alongside Hughes and Lakonga. Olise and Zaha either side with Matteta up top. Bring Ayew on for Macca at 60 mins. However, we just know it will be Lakonga and Schlupp and Ayew starting :-(
