I’ve started this thread in the Palace Talk section because it deals primarily with players currently with us. Much of our focus as fans regarding the coming summer window is the sheer number of players whose contracts expire and we can all try and play the game of who will be offered terms and who will be released. However, reading the latest clickbait about Spurs apparent interest in Guehi raises the question – which of our valuable player assets might depart this summer? Let’s face it, if one of the big clubs comes calling ,which of our (basically young) players won’t be itching to make the move with the chance of European football and possible trophies? (Saying ‘no’ to a big club in January as Brighton did to Arsenal is one thing but will Caicedo really still be a Brighton player come next season now that his head has been turned?) For my part, I see both Guehi and Olise as possible victims of big club enticement this summer and whilst we might make big profits on them, they can be difficult to replace in a hurry. One can only hope that Freedman and Co will already have potential replacements in mind for those of our players deemed most at risk of being lured away.

An obvious one is Wilf will go. I presume we will replace with Sarr - as it seems to take us that long to get targets in general. Spurs for Guehi sounds ok for him but I have noticed quite silly bids from them before for our players. I reckon Guehi has to be a 40 mil player - more maybe. He has good stats but is young and English.

Interesting thought and you are right there are those who have to go and those who might be poached. The likes of Guehi Olise and Eze are all young and will in no way be thinking they will be at Palace in the long term. I believe that their career objective Edited by Brinscalleagle2 (09 Feb 2023 10.20pm)

It's a very good point and I think the thought of this perhaps already lacking squad losing Wilf, Olise, Guehi, ASL departing from loan and then others who are looking slightly past it these days is cause for concern. Schlupp is over 30 now, you have Joel who occasionally rolls back the years but more often than not looks to be well past his best, McArthur, Ayew, Tomkins, Luka all entering their last if not very last days and other bit part players many have deemed sub-par for a while now. I find it hard to believe the club is unaware of this and therefore will allow complete catastrophe to strike however our track record is hardly the best. The bringing in of the likes of Marc, Joachim, Olise, Edouard, Eze and Doucoure in the last few years suggest there is some effort there however my fear is still the attempt to do this is more reactionary and absolutely necessary in plastering over massive holes and very precarious as opposed to progressive. Whilst I hope for a transformational summer, provided we avoid relegation, I'm not going to get my hopes up too high as this could well leave my anxiety and despair very vulnerable when little to nothing occurs.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I'm sure that I read that the club won't allow Wilf and Olise to leave in the same window and I'm guessing that the reason that we bought Richards was to replace Guehi in a year's time.

TBH ME I really wouldn't be too fussed with Olise leaving with Wilf if it provided the money to buy in an already well scouted replacement. I really like him, and thinks he has moments of genius, but he is hardly a consistent tour-de-force and it's a 40+ games season (inc. cups). As for Richards replacing Guehi, I can see that but then what are our other options at CB? Tomkins will surely be gone and I can't see Ward earmarked as starting every game for us there next season. That's already 2 wingers and probably a couple of CB's need signing. That's before the midfield and wingbacks too. It's close to an entire new first team. Are we also expecting Guaita to be here and play as no.1 next season? If Johnstone is good enough and ready where is he? Many also consider us in need of a striker as OE/JPM not good enough. Certainly a lot to worry about if you are so inclined. I find any Palace fan that does not perhaps admirable but more so bewildering!

In recent years we haven’t been a selling club. I acknowledge we could be under more selling pressure with the younger players we are now buying and note that reputedly Olise has a release clause in his contract.

I think maybe wait and see what division what we are in first.
