So John Cleese at 83 is writing some new episodes of Fawlty Towers with his daughter.

I'd prefer he wrote something new/different but at his age who can blame him for cashing in on an established hit?
Wonder what the reaction will be - the world has changed a lot since the original.

I reckon you are absolutely right. Don't go there!

Is it going to be made for the BBC (I couldn't access the full article)? If so, I predict that it will be cancelled in any case due to Cleese and the Beeb differing over the production. Cleese will want to rail against PC whereas the BBC will go woke.

I'm inclined to agree with all of that as much as I'd love some more.

I am concerned any hype, expectation/anticipation or just merely the standard previously set lines it up for disaster.

I also want to be able to continue using phrases such as 'a damn good thrashing' and 'well may I ask what you were expecting to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window?' in various circumstances to identify cultured acquaintances, colleagues etc.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Cleese is obviously looking to give his pension fund a boost, but it's a dreadful idea to my mind. The originals are masterclasses and almost impossible to improve upon.

It's bad enough when 3 or 4 series of a programme are produced with the same crew long after they reached their peak, but to consider writing new episodes of Fawlty Towers would be sacrilege. There were only two series of six episodes made originally and I seem to recall that Cleese was always of the opinion that there would or could not be any more.

Please don't do it.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

didn't the three survivors in The Beatles release a crap single in the mid 1990s ?

its a bad idea to revise perfection.

I have been trying to think of successful comedy re-boot which was at least as good as the original.

The only one that comes to mind is Whatever happened to the likely Lads which I think was better than The likely Lads.

Any others?
