Wow! Is there any point in it? Obviously Rashford won as there are many more Man Utd players voting than others. But cmon, no way was that better than Olise free kick.

Townsend won goal of the month. Kompany's goal was right at the end of the season - in City's final or penultimate game - and somehow won BBC's goal of the season because a) it was a Man City player and not a Palace player, b) it was "the goal that won the title" (conveniently ignoring the point that a title is won and lost over 42 - sorry 38 - games), and c) the scorer was retiring from football.

P.S. Kompany's goal of the season WAS chosen by the pundits, as I recall; one of whom was Ian Wright.

Goal of the Month is no longer a football competition, it’s a popularity contest which is not won by the best goal, you “win” it like I’m a Celebrity or Love Island. I can’t remember the last time it was won by a goal that wasn’t scored by Man U or Liverpool.

Olise has the meaningful trophy for goal of the month awarded by the PL. Despite that he didn’t even make top 3 on MOTD! Might as well give it to Rashford every time he’s on the list!

Ironically, Pope won save of the month for stopping JP's volley and Crooks chose De Gea in his team of the week for his save of Guehi's header. WE have enough trouble scoring goals without other teams' keepers pulling out such saves.

I'd choose Townsend's but even the most rose tinted spectacled fan can admit Kompany's was a bloody good goal at a bloody important moment.
