BBC News - Brixton Academy: Woman dies after Asake concert crush
[Link]

Has sadly resulted in a death. There will have to be an enquiry in order to prove that the police, the venue and everyone other than those trying to storm their way in without tickets were to blame.

The police took 7 minutes to get there. Then got attacked by some of the crowd.
Maybe should have got an invite prior to each event.

Having grown up in Brixton nothing about this event surprises me.

Tragic death of Rebecca Ikumelo, 33, from Newham, east London, died in hospital on Saturday morning, two others critical.

After the 4 boys at Solihull, it's painful.

I have the feeling this is going to play out in Hillsbrough-esque fashion.

It's amazing how lawless and 'f**k the police' people can be before tragedy strikes and then it's 'where were they?'.

Very sad.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

The venue will get the blame through a lack of foresight of knowing that 100s of people would try to get in for nothing. This girl may have had a ticket but sadly could be an innocent victim of stupid, selfish, greedy and entitled.

Do they have to carry out health and safety reports prior to concerts? For example, taking into account that some concerts would be higher risks than others?

I have seen claims, and zero way of verifying/commenting on whether they are true or not, that the Security team at that venue is known for being willing to take a back-hander by way of letting people without tickets in? But I guess that will all emerge in any subsequent enquiry but as I understand it that person whose concert it was had already stressed that people without tickets should not turn up so it appears that this event was clearly one in which potential issues had been identified in advance.

I can indeed confirm that "cash backhanders" have occured, albeit several years ago. My Daughters asked if I could take them to see Greenday,IIRC 2005.In short:Completely forgot my promise, hadn't purchased tickets, went up on evening of gig to buy from box office, didn't realise how popular Greenday had become since seeing them at the same venue a dozen years earlier when there were propbably a 1000 punters(holds 5000 I believe),touts were asking £60 upwards for ticket, one guy said he worked for security at the venue got us in bypassing all other security/checks whilst flashing his lanyard for £100 cash! so it certainly goes on and I've been going there since it first opened as (i think?) Fairtrade(just checked, it was Fair Deal) in the very early '80's seeimg The Clash and at times thought there's more prople than should be and Health n Safety would have a problem if there was an issue due to overcrowding. Sad that someone has lost their life whilst hoping to enjoy a night out watching a musician they wanted to see. Ollie's Dad,Ash.

It goes on everywhere. I remember doing it at Selhurst for the Blackburn 2nd leg play off game. I was drinking back in those days & remember thinking jeez we're 3-1 down from the first leg I'll easily get a ticket but when I turned up it was jam packed. I gave the guy on the turnstile 20 quid & I'm going to bet I wasn't the only one who gave him a back hander, I bet that he made more than enough spending money for his two weeks in Benidorm
