So according to the unions HMG are hiding behind an independent pay review body formed to bring fairness and oversee pay rises in the state sector. The very same independent pay review body that the unions fought so hard to bring to conception.
Couldn’t make it up !!!

Do you mean the pay review body whose members are selected by the government and who are issued a remit letter from the government to confirm what parameters they abide by..?

Does that sound independent?

So parameters are wrong then?
Just wondering what would be achieved by not having them!
An upper and lower limit is what all companies in the private sector work to; why should the state be any different?

brilliant

Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance.

Labour are in hock to unions and their far-left militant union barons who have organised co-ordinated strikes which are crippling the country and affecting the very people they purport to be supporting ie the "Working people".

Lynch, the modern day 'Arthur Scargill', and his cronies need a dose of realism as they engage in pay delusion.

So are you suggesting that the Trades Union members should accept a wage rise LESS that inflation and in real terms CUT their wages in real spending terms? In the current climate of soaring energy and food prices that is hard to envisage.

Paying inflation-level increases to all 5.7 million public sector workers (Not including rail and postal employees) would cost £28 BILLION which the Government can not afford.

This figure would be even greater if nurse received the pay award they are demanding and if rail and Royal Mail employees were taken into account.

You mention the soaring energy prices, the Government has found £55 BILLION to support households during this crisis.

It's fair to say that there's plenty of people in the Private sector that have not even gotten a wage rise, yet alone one equal to inflation for several years. Where's the outrage for those bosses?

Well, Liz Truss was (until common sense prevailed) happy to spend £65 billion on UNFUNDED tax cuts, what the government can and cannot afford is a specious argument, they can always afford things they support but not anything to do with working class wages.

But when inflation was low did they never ask for above inflation rises?
Having said that, the public sector (well Civil Servants) have not had a “decent” pay rise ( anything over 1.5-2%) for many years
