Looks very possible GOP will have majority in both houses rendering Biden even more redundant than he is now. He has certainly done a good job of losing every fossil fuel job related vote. At least if Kamala Harris completes Biden's term she will be unabale to have any influence other than veto. Hunter Biden should be heading to the airport if he has any sense cos his beans gonna get spilt.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

The Commonwealth is still important even it is changing shape. I don't think that for example, the UK has any need to try and lead on climate issues, no one else gives a feck what we do. If it can be turned into a commercial advantage then fair enough to shout about it. We are hardly the only country in the world to be researching carbon capture and hydrogen fulled vehicles. It is wrong for any politician to render a fiction fo thousands of " well paid green jobs ". The country will not have a dramatic economic reversal because the Govt pays to insulate properties that CAN be effectively insulated. If you have a property that cannot be insulated then what? ( 100% manadate that all new builds have to be energy efficient as far as possible )

It seems obvious that the balance of power is going to change and the US faces another period of stalemate when nothing too much will change at federal level. Not so at state level though. What's more interesting, and a very disturbing, is just how many of the Republican candidates for state level jobs are Trump endorsees, who have bought into his lies about the 2020 election being "stolen" by election fraud, and sold themselves to the voters on a promise to "put things right". As some would have responsibility for overseeing future elections this is obviously critical and has the potential for a serious threat to democracy, which in turn could ignite an already volatile situation. So what happens in the coming months is therefore more important than what happens today. Will Trump be emboldened and declare? Will those he endorsed all stick with him, or show some independent thought? Will the growing rift between DeSantis and Trump break out into open warfare and split the MAGA movement? With DeSantis being described as an intelligent Trump, that would be interesting. With American politics at the lowest I can recall, nothing would surprise me.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

Why would anyone who values democracy and fair elections be against proof of identity before casting a vote? It is required in almost all countries in Europe. The Democrats presumably believe it would cost them votes so they are totally against the idea and try to make it a race issue

To get onto the electoral register you have to provide some form of identification and proof of nationality. If you cannot provide id when voting how did you get onto the register in the first place. Or is it that your lefty mates in the lefty council didn't look to hard when registering you?

I don't think you have to produce ID - you just register through the Electoral Roll form sent out by the Local Authority, by stating that you reside at that address and are eligible to vote.

Wow you are correct Becky. I just looked all you need is a National Insurance number no wonder the left don't want voter id. There are plenty of stories about NI numbers being issued to people who are not entitled to them so hardly a secure identification method. Even if they do have an NI number who is to say they are entitled to vote in that particular election. What a shambles, this is where the real voter fraud takes place not so much at the ballot box on election day.
