A classic case of good players not necessarily making good managers. At least not so early on. There really is no substitute for time in the game. Experience counts for a lot.

Despite my hatred for L'pool and his lacklustre England performances I always thought he was a great player and didn't ever 'hate the man' so to speak. When we played them at Selhurst it was a very, very rare occasion in which even at 0-1 I sat in the stands quite comfortably thinking 'we'll probably still win this'. I would challenge anyone to name his 'managerial/footballing style' and whilst I wish to offend nobody I maintain Scottish football is an absolute joke and therefore no barometer for this country's league. Villa looked awful early this season, they're a big club with a big budget and plenty of support. It's shown up how employing somebody off the basis of a name and moderate achievement with one of the only two teams competing in a Sunday league is no recipe for success.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Nice to hear I have the HoL approval for providing our voice to the nation on footballing matters

Yup however there are plenty of managers with top flight experience in better leagues who have also failed. The step up to the PL is a big one and where do you get the new manager from? The Championship, well plenty of them have tried and failed. I must admit I though PV would fail so glad to see he has proved me wrong.

I don't think this means that Gerrard is a bad manager. He's got entry to learn. The whole Villa concept to buy be everyone but have no particular style and vision is reminiscent of Fulham a couple of seasons ago. And Holloway with us. Gerrard needs to learn from this and come back a better manager. I think he would be a good coach or assistant too - if he would take a step back.

Interesting to see how well Michael Beale is doing in the Champo with QPR - being StevieG's assistant manager at Rangers. (and that he had the cajone's to turn down the incredibly unappealing Wolves job down) Was he the power behind Gerrards success at Rangers? or is it further evidence to that the Scottish PL is equivalent to the Champo?
