"We’re going to have to take some very tough decisions on both spending and tax," he told Sky News. "Spending will not go up as much as people want and there’ll be more efficiencies to find and we won’t have the speed of tax cuts we are hoping for and some taxes will have to go up. That’s the reality of the very challenging situation we face." More public spending cuts More cuts in care staffing "Nobody cares about the NHS more than I do"quote from his interview on the Today programme. Turn sideways, Jeremy, and let's see the nose get longer still.

What do you expect? You didn't like the unfunded tax cuts and now you're complaining about possible spending cuts and tax rises.
One more point |

We faced these problems who-ever was in No 10 and 11! Would you rather have someone who treated you like an adult, told you the truth and asked you to come along, or treat you like a child and tell you what you want to hear, with a few sweeties as bribes? I am quite sure Hunt understands the issues surrounding the NHS better than most, but he is a realist. It's probably going to get worse, possibly much worse, before it gets better. There is no way anyone can avoid being impacted in some way. So trying to protect the most vulnerable makes sense. Some will fall down the cracks and there will doubtless be some horror stories ahead of us. There's more to life than just worrying about financial issues, at least for most of us. So enjoy the game, enjoy the Autumn, your family and friends, and buckle up. It will be a rough ride but we will survive.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

I’m no fan of Jeremy but I think a show of realism is necessary as a starting point. Hopefully this is a preamble before some sensible, logic based decision making as opposed to pure ideological daydreaming that serves no practicality in reality. You can never fix or address any problem that you don’t at least first acknowledge. It’s warranted rare appreciation from me!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

A Tory Prime Minister, on the back of 70+seat majority, probably losing her job because of wanting to bring in tax-cuts. We truly live in Clown World. And now a w***er like Hunt in a top position. A man who wanted to bring in Covid concentration camps. f*** him. Edited by Matov (15 Oct 2022 12.13pm)

Edited by Matov (15 Oct 2022 12.13pm) But you and dear Badger must realise that for the vast majority of people they are being plunged into debt to pay for very small beer tax cuts. Let's face it, they are actually when you look closely, mutton dressed up as lamb. In fact by pausing tax thresholds you will end up paying £2 for every 13 over the next 4 years due to inflation. If I remember correctly Gordon Browne first indexed them to inflation.

As I recall, Hunt was the one that ended bursaries for trainee nurses, putting many off from training and was generally reviled within NH professions. On the subject of 'difficult decisions', caporate tax should be increased to 30%. Do we really think that if Starbuck's, for instance, were taxed at this rate, they'd stop selling coffee to 50 million people, or whatever, in this country? And, if they did, that there'd be no one who want to step into the market to make profits from it? Germany, held up by many to be a more successful economy, charge 30% corporate tax. Why can't multi nationals take some of the brunt of these 'hard decisions'? Edited by Glazier#1 (15 Oct 2022 8.55pm) Edited by Glazier#1 (15 Oct 2022 8.56pm)
