I drink all drinks at a similar rate (well almost), that's why I gave up spirits. Whisky gave me a brutal hangovers.

So I became a beer and wine man. No real hangovers - could feel a bit heavy the next day but nothing horrible.

After consulting my scales and then a doctor I was forced to appraise how much I was really knocking back. It was averaging about 16 units a night. Typically 2 large glasses of wine followed by 3 or 4 (usually 4 and occassionally more) 440ml cans of 5% strength beer.

I have halved that but the health police would still say it's too much. Maybe they're right. But hey I like it too much to give up completely.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

I think 20 units a week for men and 14 for women.
Why I don’t know tbh. Never seen any sums for it

I usually have one real binge a week - usually with a match. Then pay for it for a day or two.
Don't go down the pub as much as I used and frankly can't drink the same as I used to. I find eight is around my limit these days.
I stopped the takeaway eating and maybe have some noisy tea and toast before bed and snore worse for a night. I'll drink ale at home but basically will drink the cheapest lager in the pub - mainly a cost thing.

Does that binge start on a Monday and end on Sunday by chance

When I frequented my local years ago there was a fella who smashed it on Friday night. I mean twelve odd pints and shorts. He said he loved being drunk but hated the taste and if a pill could make him feel as pissed he wouldn’t drink again.
Strange but true.

I did genuinely drink every day for years. However, I found if I didn't drink I didn't mind. The Irish terminology for alcoholic is 'fond of a drink'. These days once a week - twice at a push and it does me. But I'm not great at moderation. Will start 'lashing into them' in the Irish parlance.

unfortunatly always drunk pretty heavy since late 20s.
a bad week is excess of 100 units, try to keep it around 50.
Its always been very common in the building trade.
usually beer & wine, try to dodge spirits.
Something thats being addressed gradually, nowhere near as bad as I used to be, although never used to miss work.
However I can honestly say ive know other fellas through mainly work & friends that have drunk exceptionally more.
I knew a guy that was guilt ridden about causing a death in an accident, averaged 100 drinks(not units, drinks that is) from friday to sunday, dead obviously now.
cannot remember its name, but theres a book about richard harris, otoole, burton, taylor, their drinking.
something else!

That'll be Hellraisers by Robert Sellers.
It's said W. C. Fields kept dozens of cases of gin in his attic because he was afraid prohibition might come back.

doctors found crystallised alcohol on Burtons spine during an Op.
He & Liz sounded a nightmare couple.

heres another thing..
whats the best food to have with booze?
personally I think chinese or thai is totally unsuitable.
Curry works well, although I think its got to be the dirty doner kebab if we're talking after the piss up.(or a burger)
Organised portions of food during drinking, over an evening works very well as it constantly soaks it up.
If we are drinking on a sat evening, we'll usually have a starter around 5-6pm(samosas/tikka wrap etc) then a small curry shared 8ish then maybe something else small later.
right as rain next day.

The problem with Chinese food on the way home is over ordering then waking up to bags full of it all over the shop - including on at least one occasion rice in my shoes.

The PC brigade implore both sexes not to exceed 14 units per week.
Very difficult to comply and rather odd as the recommended limit has gradually been reduced from 28 units, down to 21 units, probably to protect the NHS.
My GP,who freely admitted to drinking like a fish, recommended two consecutive dry nights per week,if you consistently drink to excess, which sounds sensible.
Personally, seem to be drinking around two large glasses of red wine a day as this allows me to keep my weight in check without needing to diet or over exercise.
Each to his own.Cheers!!
