Most games postponed this weekend. Along with many other sporting events.

This game is going to be an absolute nightmare to rearrange. The European schedule this year is absolutely brutal.

Unless the league considers putting in a round of games midweek on 21st/22nd December (WC final is 18th December), then this will be mid-January at the absolute earliest.

26th January 2010 - Enter Administration
2nd May 2010 - D-Day 1 - Survival at Hillsborough
1st June 2010 - D-Day 2 - Survival at Lloyds
7th June 2010 - CPFC2010 exchange contracts.

I've also just read that the Government left the decision up to the league - they chose to postpone, other sports haven't.

I do think the league have made the wrong decision here. There could be a large mark of respect shown at the games - a minute's silence followed by national anthem. During major events, the country has always made large public gatherings a focal point of the national attention. I don't see what shutting down achieves.

I think it makes sense, as much sense as pubs, cinemas, restaurants, just about everything being open this weekend to enjoy asides from football stadiums. Even more so with the fact we have a ludicrously blatant, corrupt World Cup taking place midway through the season in a strict Islamic country, with no footballing status, where people are still beheaded, alcohol is prohibited etc and our game against our biggest rivals was called off for a strike now not taking place as they built an inaccessible stadium.

I can feel my mind gearing up to explode.

The minute or more silence, the National anthem, a big crowd and the match.

Far more traditional and appropriate in my view.

Totally agree, unlike most of the modern world and it’s leaders.

Also with the Brighton game postponed might be a bit of squeeze too fit rescheduled games in. Obviously mid season World Cup doesn’t help.

Unfortunately the minute's silence before a Premier League match has been substantially diminished as familiarity breeds contempt.
It seems every match for the past few seasons begins with a minute's silence so showing such a mark of respect for the Queen will lack the moving impact of previous years.
Whether it is the club cat; longstanding hotdog seller or minor celebrity from the other side of the world they all get their minute's silence.
The Queen deserves more than that.

I am all for showing respect, especially to someone like Her Majesty who has been beyond reproach in her life & service to the country - however, I cant help feeling that the leagues have cancelled the fixtures so that they wont be criticised for allowing them to go ahead, rather than the respect angle - as a number have said, mass gathering at an event, national anthem, minutes silence, a military gun salute, last post etc would probably all be more meaningful & poignant at this time, bringing the nation closer together - just my tuppence worth

I fully agree with your sentiments it is not disrespectful to play a game of football 9/10 days before the funeral, and a minute silence and the national anthem would be suitable, all other sporting events have resumed on the Saturday, most people have a massive regard for the Queen, that she has held the monarchy together for so long.

The Queen epitomised ' The Show Must Go On ' mentality. I think she would be baffled by the decision to postpone some sports while others continue.

I realise we are all going to be subjectively biased on here as football fans but almost every post has some real substance in terms of common sense so far. My hysteria has yet to wain!
