Years ago, I read somewhere that he was going to call himself King George rather than Charles (after me I guess).

Yes, he did speculate quite a while ago that he might choose to be called King George VII (George being one of his names), however it's been confirmed that he is indeed King Charles III.

I don't want to be the t*** that says that I don't think Charles is half the man the Queen was.

I accept that we are just a forum and free speech is fine but - ASCPGC - this man has just lost his Mother and the duty he he now has will be immense so give the man some leeway!

I am still sad about our Queen which as I am a republican surprises me, however I think of her as my favourite grandmother. There is now a brief gap before Charles's coronation which he and Parliament should use to shape his reign. I hope they don't waste he opportunity. Anyway some suggestions on modernising the monarchy: - Should we even have a monarch? Reluctantly I say yes. There is no support to abolish the monarch and we still need a ceremonial head of state "President Reality TV star / Failed politician" anyone? - Line of succession. Women are discriminated so Anne was behind Andrew even though she was older. This needs to end. Catholics are barred from the throne this needs to end. - Head of the Church of England. The UK is the only western democracy with a state religion which puts us in the same company as the middle east. The COE needs to be disestablished and the Archbishop of Canterbury recognised as the head of the church. The monarch should be free to practice whatever religion they like. - The Firm. It's time to break up this cozy little cartel. The new firm should be the monarch and consort and the heir and that is it. All other members of the royal family should be thanked for their service and told they are now private citizens. Sorry Meghan you are out. - King Charles III. I doubt he will be as popular as his mother. He has waited his whole life for this job so it would seem churlish to deny him now. However if he wants to protect his reign and the monarchy the smart move would be to announce a time limit on his reign e.g. 5 years after which he would step aside for William. If he hangs on like his mother did he will only cause problems for the future. - There is no such thing as a job for life. Most other European monarchs now abdicate when they find the job too hard to do. The royal family need to accept that retirement is normal even the pope does it. The focus will now be on the funeral but it will be interesting to see if any of the above happens, if it doesn't it will be a wasted opportunity.

Im not entirely onboard with Charles, he isnt really a man of the people, is a fully fledged member of the WEF, likes to get involved in politics too often. My gut is telling me we'll look back on his reign negatively.
