I saw Wardy being interviewed after the dissapointing draw with Brentford. I think he should be captain.
'- Really? Honestly? Back in the USSR,,,you don't know how lucky you are. |

Would rather pick someone certain to play - like one of the two central defenders.

My choices would be - Guehi, Andersen or Decoure for captain - Nothing much to say about Guehi , he is the real deal, although I would like to see him being a bit more vocal / in charge -

I thought when it was handed briefly to Guehi he looked slightly uncomfortable with it, could just be a peculiar take from me but maybe too early for him. If Ward is to play I fully agree, I think he looks like he has forged a new identity for himself and a new man/player on the pitch as a result. Think his likelihood to play every game being in doubt is obviously a factor however. For all Wilf's brilliance, experience and passion, he still lacks the temperament and composure for me, Andersen and Doucoure are both brilliant in my book but in the context of what they do as individuals. Tough one really, I thought if Johnstone was to come in as no.1 he'd be a contender in this team as it is but I am not a massive fan of the captain being stuck in one 6-yard box. Would be nice to have another midfielder to take the role Schlupp seems to be occupying who would also naturally inherit or adopt a captaincy role. Do love the Jeffrey but I would like to see him as an 'impact player' as opposed to a starter.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Did you notice when Wilf was being lectured by the ref, Ward came over and put his tuppence in. Wilf kept quiet and took it. He knew that Wilf would mouth off and get a card if left to his own devices. So he went in and gave the sort of measured profanity free comments that would not earn him a card. That is what a captain should do. He is the senior player in the team and there is no-one better, save Jimmy Mac.

Yeah, there's no way Wilf is captain material.

Guehi has already said he doesn't want it as there are more experienced players deserving of it, plus he seems quite shy. I'm fine with Ward being captain as we are rapidly becoming a very youthful team and he is forceful but composed, rarely losing his temper. Andersen seems a bit dramatic to be captain. If McArthur was able to play more regularly he'd be my shout as he is by far the most vocal player on the pitch and seems to hold the respect of his teammates. Hodgson said when he was with us that the captain was a bit redundant as a position these days and it's really just about having leaders on the pitch. That is possibly something we're lacking a bit as you noticed in the preseason games without the crowds how quiet the team can be.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Ward is an Eagle. Great defensive brain. Not sure if he still has the legs for 95 minutes. I was surprised when PV took off younger players against Brentford. Edited by PalazioVecchio (31 Aug 2022 9.13pm)

Hear me out here, but I think Ward would make an excellent number 10. He has all the attributes to make a success of it IMO, he has to start there on Saturday
