Hah, just as i start writing this Edouard scores. But hey its against Oxford. Why is PV going with Edouard over Mateta ? Edouard has not looked anything different in the two starts and sub he has had so far compared to last year. Mateta meanwhile last season looked sharp, energetic and aware, he was seemingly on the same wavelength as Zaha and they looked good together. He comes on as a sub Vs Villa and immediately scores. So, why Edouard over Mateta ? what am i missing ?

Personally I like Edouard and think he's a decent squad player. I think he's had issues with his work rate which to be honest alot of Scottish fans said when we signed him. I have alot of family in Scotland and even though they're Rangers fans they all said the same when we signed him that he's technically very good but it depends on whether he wants to make the effort. He could get away with that attitude up there but not in the Premiership. I think it's just taken him a bit of time to adjust but he's worth persevering with.
Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!! |

While Mateta makes the effort but is not as good technically?

What Eduoard does seem to need (and perhaps lacks right now) is confidence and momentum. So I'd hazard a guess that PV is trying to play OE into form. Mateta will work hard and get on the end of the odd cross for sure...but an in-form Eduoard is exciting. Just my guess of course - can't read PV's mind.

They said Benteke just needed confidence, year after year after year. Not a good reason for more than a little slump

But of course you never get confidence when you're in and out of the team, give 7 minutes at the end to make an impact etc. I for one am happy PV is giving Eduoard the chance and time to build the confidence - think we'll have a heck of a player if he can get there.

Hence Vieira’s comments about Eddie being more decisive in the box. I agree, if you watch he often starts ‘fumbling’ in the box.

Mateta is a lot more physical and seems to work well with Wilf...loves to get on the end of things as he did on Saturday...
